refs made a glaring oversight today?

In regards to the Bills final drive of the game...

On 3rd and long, the Bills ran a long play that picked up the first and then some, but was called back due to holding. The very next play was 3rd and eight to go. How is this possible? Isn't holding an automatic 10 yard penalty? This could have been a big difference in our field position, and what kind of plays we could have run, on our final drive of the game where we took two sacks.

Did anyone else catch this? Did the refs just screw up the ball placement and forget to add on the 10 yard penalty?

Nope, it's 10 yards from the spot of the foul. Josh Reed was already 7 yards downfield or so when he was flagged, so the 10 yards put them back to 3rd and 8. The time that ticked off was just as precious, though.

The holding was downfield, thus the 10 yds is marked off from the spot of the WR Josh Reed's hold and repeat the down

Spot of the foul penalty, and the spot of the foul was beyond the line of scrimmage. The bigger problem I have with that is that time can be eaten off the clock in the final two minutes of the game by a play with a penalty involved. I mean hell, if the team is trying to run out the clock, shouldn't they somehow NOT be able to if they run a play with a penalty involved?
