More than six years after he initially received the Heisman Trophy, former USC and current Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush finally returned his copy of the controversial award, ESPNLosAngeles.com reported Wednesday.

Bush told the "Dan Patrick Show" on Wednesday morning that he personally returned the award to the Trust and a spokesman confirmed to both ESPNLosAngeles.com and the radio show that Bush had returned the trophy.

"The Heisman Trust has it in their possession," Tim Henning told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Bush won the Heisman in December 2005, but the running back was later implicated, along with his family, in an NCAA investigation of the school.

After the NCAA announced sanctions against USC in June 2010, the school returned its version of the award in August. Bush said in September 2010 that he would "forfeit" the title of Heisman Trophy winner and would return the physical copy of the award to the Heisman Trust.

According to ESPNLosAngeles.com, Bush ended up keeping the award until some point in 2012.

He should of kept it. Why return it to an arbitrary, archaic institution that rules based on who pays the most.

**** the NCAA!!! Greedy Bastards.

so stupid.

i understand he violated rules and all, and i am not saying he did not deserve any fine or anything, but taking back the heisman makes no sense whatsoever.

He received that heisman based on his performance on the field, which he was by far the best player in college football that season. His performance on the field was not due to performance enhancing drugs or anything like that, so its not like he had an advantage on everyone else in terms of skill level due to any illegal stuff.

what they are saying is basically, at first here is the award for being the best college player , and now taking it back does what exactly? was his performance that year just a dream?

you want to punish him, go ahead, but i just think its stupid to do it this way because he still was by far the best player that season, and you can make an argument it was the best offensive season by any college player of all time.

I personally dont care what they do, i mean i just hope reggie can continue to show what he did towards the end of the season last year where he looked like that 2nd overall pick, but it just makes no sense, because it does not really lessen the accomplishment, everyone who watched that season knows bush was by far the best and it wasnt really that close.

i understand that, and i honestly don't care that much, but im just pointing out how this, along with many other things makes no sense.

like i know stuff like this happens quite a bit also, but when a college team faces sanctions, such as most recently penn state, no doubt they deserved to lose scholarships, you want to ban them from playing in future bowls, i am all for it, they deserve sanctions beyond for what happened there, but stripping them of wins they already accomplished makes no sense.

they won those games already, they had more points when the clock hit 0.00 in the 4th qtr than their opponent, meaning they won, so basically now taking that away from them, especially for the players who did nothing wrong basically vacating there wins makes no sense, because everyone saw them win the games already.

just rules like this. stick to fines, take away scholarships, etc.

Bah, he did the right thing. He broke the rules, no matter if the rules are stupid or not, and got caught. I think it shows maturity, integrity and sets a good example. Good on ya, mate.

They should have reprimanded him with something else. That's his Heisman for what he did ON the field. That off the field stuff about receiving money has nothing to do with the Heisman, imo. This is stupid as hell.

Bush could have told them to go F themselves.
