Howard said he felt unwanted soon after Saban replaced Dave Wannstedt before last season.
"I don't think I was the type of player he wanted me to be, I guess," Howard said. "I could feel that from the jump. I tried to do the things that (Saban) wanted me to do, but I had gotten used to doing things a certain way here in Carolina."

The defense really hasn't changed much since Howard's Super Bowl heroics, and he shouldn't have any trouble fitting in, Carolina coach John Fox said.
"Reggie is a guy that we had real strong feelings about before he left for Miami, and we had an opportunity to bring him back," Fox said. "We still have strong feelings about him, and I think those are probably reciprocal."
