FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Both teams are headed for the playoffs and both still have something to play for when the New England Patriots visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
For the Patriots, who have won six straight games to go to 13-2, a win means home-field advantage for the entire AFC playoffs.
For the Dolphins, a win could move them from the No. 6 to the No. 5 seed, which would send them to Houston instead of Pittsburgh. That would happen with a Miami win and a loss by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Even if KC wins, a Miami win and an Oakland win would see Miami going to Oakland, rather than New England, for the 2nd Round - obviously the preferable scenario.

Perfect scenario....

Week 17

Miami beats NE
Oakland beats Denver
KC beats SD

That puts us at #5 and NE ends up with #1

Wildcard...

Miami beats Houston
KC beats Pit

Divisional round

KC beats NE in NE
Miami beats Oak in Oak

AFC Championship game

KC @ Miami

-------------------------------------------------

NFC Wildcard
#6 Lions @ #3 Falcons
#5 Giants @ #4 Packers

NFC Divisional

Falcons @ #2 Seattle
Giants @ #1 Dallas

NFC Championship

Seattle @ Dallas

SuperBowl in Houston this year

Miami vs Seattle in a rematch of week 1.

A guy can dream right? LOL.

At this point I will not be too disappointed in anything that happens as long as we are competitive over the next two weeks.

Playoffs - anything can happen.

In this perfect scenario you explain.. If Miami and kc both win then Miami is not the 5 seed. Only way that can happen is if kc loses and Miami wins.

But how sweet would it be to be able to shut down Dallas in a SB matchup

What absolutely dream of a Dolphins vs Giants Super Bowl.

These scenarios are incorrect. The NFL re-seeds after each round. The #1 seed always plays the lowest remaining seed. Here's what is wanted:

Mia defeats NE
SD defeats KC
Oak defeats Den

Now Oakland is the #1, NE the #2, Miami the #5, and KC the #6.

Then you want Pittsburgh to defeat KC with Miami defeating Houston. Then the Dolphins would play the Raiders and the Steelers would play the Patriots. If the Chiefs defeated the Steelers, then, as the lowest remaining seed, they would play the Raiders.

The Steelers lose to the Chiefs and the NFL decides that the Patriots forfeit their spot and let the Steelers play us in the divisional round? I'm good with that I guess ;)
