In another thread, there was a talk about how our owner Wayne Huizenga could sell the team or relocate the team if he does not get a new stadium since our current stadium is getting older. I say that there is no way we are going to be relocated because we are putting 300 million into the stadium...what do you think?

I think that there is a possibility we could be relocated soon

The Phins don't play in the Orange Bowl anymore.
Dolphin stadium was built in the late 80's and Huizenga just spent several million upgrading it. It is a state of the art facility in a perfect location to serve the tri-county area.

Thats exactly the kind of things I say...

i dont think so why would they be putting all of that money into the stadium if they werent going to stay

What about all the new improvements made to the stadium? Why do that if your plan is to sell the team?

$300mil for a facelift or a billion for a brand new one--which is the better investment?

Putting a stadium like the Texans have, the Cowboys will have, or the new Wembley Stadium (complete with retractable roof & air conditioning) in Miami would have been a 365 day a year cash cow.

I'm not opposed to the facelift approach, I'm just suggesting that the sports & entertainment world have changed enough since 1987, that a case could be made that a different type of stadium makes for a better business model going forward in 2007.

That might seem like a crazy thing to do when Dolphin Stadium is only 20 years old, but think about the money Miami (the city) is giving up uncontested to cities like New Orleans, Atlanta, and Houston. That kind of revenue gets spread city-wide and helps businesses of all kinds. Oh well. I still say a retractable roof is a necessity given the current situation.

What current situation? And who are the ones that selected this second one? Id like to here your views as to why you think we will be relocated soon

Nobody mentioned the second idea (to my knowledge) except me. But before I personally spend a dollar to fix anything, I compare it to the cost/benefit of buying a new one, then I make my decision.

I do know Wayne was looking at adding a retractable roof, and then seemed to back off the idea. I don't know if this is because it can't physically be done, if it would be too expensive, or for some other reason... but I was disappointed to hear that news. Everyone knows how much money can be made from being able to hold huge conventions... for example, that's why Atlantic City lost the Miss America Pageant. A.C. couldn't compete against what other larger cities with better climates could offer.

I don't think the Dolphins are moving, but I do get nervous when I see so many orange empty seats on TV. (I don't live in FL.) If it was a more comfortable place to see a game on their worst weather days (heat advisories & monsoons), maybe it would sell out, maybe not. It would take a focus group or two to be positive.

IMO, you will not see stadiums reach the age of the Orange Bowl anymore. It's just cheaper in the long run to build a new stadium with everything you want in it rather than getting nickel and dimed to death upgrading every ten years. Some things can't be upgraded after the fact regardless of how much money you throw at it--perhaps a retractable roof is the perfect example of that.

I doubt Dolphin Stadium will ever celebrate it's 40th anniversary, because it won't be able to compete with state of the art stadiums in 2027 regardless of the current facelift project or any that come along after it.

im pretty sure he wouldnt move out of florida or out of miami maybe just somewhere close like the 49ers did if this was ever even an issue but we dont have to worry about that this team is miami.

Yes, others did select the second one(look at the poll). And I live in florida and have season tickets so I can fill you in on the empty seats. First, we have not been a very good team. Believe me if we were competing for a division title, those seats would be filled without a doubt. And the fact is, while there have been empty seats, almost all of them are paid for. People just dont go...why..again, because we havent been very good. Miami has been top 10 in attendance for the past 8 years! The seats are all paid for, some people just dont show. And like I said before, that has zero effect on the ownership and the money they make from ticket sales. Just because people dont go to the games, doesnt mean they didnt make money off the tickets the people bought. Anyways, ive said it before and ill say it again, there is no way the dolphins will relocate. I think that is crazy. Its south florida! The miami dolphins are one of the most expensive teams in the NFL if it were to go on sale. We have a good stadium that just got 300 mil in renovations and we are a large market team with a big fan base. Were never going to relocate.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you meant where did my second idea come from regarding building a new stadium from scratch. I see now you meant the second choice in your poll.

I voted that we're not moving. I don't think Wayne will ever move the Fins... but if he sold them someday, there's no telling what a different owner would do.
