This one is for all the "Chad Henne/Mcown will start" posters out there who seem to be forgetting what happened in Cleveland this past year. Lets start with last years draft... in Round 1 pick number 22 the cleveland browns select Brady quinn qb notre dame. Why do you think they selected Quinn when they had a QB in Derek anderson? They wanted "THEIR" guy? Or Anderson just plain BLOWS!!!?? NO! They drafted Brady Quinn to bring competion and have an insurance policy incase Anderson doesn't pan out. not becuase they want a different "hand picked" QB. History repeats itself! Obviously though... with what happened this year with us and Green bay. You bring in competion at QB and let them battle it out. By the way Derek Anderson got his contract reconstructed and Cleveland fans love him now. So.... will John Beck be this years Derek Anderson? We will soon find out. :buddwalk:

I agree. A little competition for our QB's will make them prepare a little more vigorously during this offseason since they know that they will have to prove their worth in camp.

I don't understand your logic flash....If my memory serves me right, the current regime in Cleveland signed Derek Anderson, and he wasn't a holdover from a previous one.

How can you really compare the two? One is barely 6'2, the other is 6'6

Your logic makes no sense

same thign happened whit brees. philip rivers pick up turned brees into a PBer that yera and a good QB there after.

the main thing is we have 2 good young guys that can develop into good QB's and this is the best situauion we've been in at QB since Marino left..why can't everyone just root for both of them instead of trying to prove who's right?

Ozzy rules!!

uhh... yea it does. It has nothing to do with who selected John beck. Its even more logical to not select Brady Quinn if you HAND PICKED Anderson. Who cares about their height, that has nothing to do with how succesful they will be. Parcells and Co like Beck they have no reason not to. Pacells defended Beck last year saying "He shouldn't even see the field yet". If he hadn't seen the field we wouldn't have any of these haters around. I swear ever since Marino retired we've had these haters talking so much smack about our QB's. I heard chants of "Fiedler sucks, Fiedler sucks" when we made the playoffs. What is it with some of you fans? This is only a Miami thing too. No other organizations fans hate on their QB's so much. But we run our QB's out the door within days. :buddwalk:

Hate to ruin the Beck optimism -- since I also want to see him succeed -- but when they drafted Brady, their starting QB was Frye. It wasn't until September, once they had seen Anderson and Brady play in the pre-season, that they dealt their starter-at-the-time Frye to the Seahawks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3014233). When they drafted Quinn, they didn't expect Anderson to have that kind of a year.

However, be that as it may... because Anderson had a great year, they now have the luxury of a good starter and a backup who they are confident can get the job done. And they have that card up their sleeve that they can deal to another team for the right price (like Schaub to Houston, before Vick was found to be a puppy-killer)

But yes, I hope this draft pick lights a fire under Beck's *** and squeezes out every ounce of performance!

Care to show some links? It's cool you're a Beck supporter and all, but I don't see much in common between the two cases.

I always thought Fiedler wasn't that bad, all things considered. I always thought they should have given Griese a better shot.

There was no strategy behind Anderson. They didn't even know wtf they had. They offered the Seahawks their choice of Anderson or Frye. It was Cleveland's dumb luck that Seattle took Frye LOL

Quincy Carter was drafted around the same area as John Beck. I think Bill Parcells remembers having him at QB when he got to Dallas. He remembers never drafting any QB's to take his place and regrets it every day. Thus making sure he has depth behind another 2nd round undeveloped quarterback. Then again if Vinny Testeverde was younger or Bledose unretired, we all know they'd somehow end up being our quarterbacks....

I don't think Cleveland knew what they had in Anderson and if I was a dolphin fan your hope is the new regime didn't know what they had in Beck. I certainly wouldn't quit on Beck just yet. I actually still like Beck better than Henne.

the browns drafted quinn to be their no.1 guy no question about it - it just happened that anderson exploded so they stuck with him.

its nothing like the beck situation because beck was the projected starter - anderson wasnt

****, here we go with a bunch of qb geniuses arguing about who our starter is the day after the freakin' draft. Guys, we have months...
