I know this thread is coming from a standpoint:lol: of 20/20 hindsight and I guess I need to vent. It's just that, I think a really good CB is such a huge need for us now and I'm not thrilled with any of the CB's coming out this year.

There are few whom I like..DRC, Cason, Mckelvin, etc... but with all these big, tall 6-4 + receivers and the rule changes that favor the receivers, although they did change the push-out rule, I think having a big, fast corner is going to be more and more important as time goes on. JMHO.

This brings me too why I get soooo pissed when I think how we could've had A. Cromartie. Definitely one of our franchises most underrated and biggest blunders. I believe we took J. Allen instead, I think. Not trying to bash him but.......Geez!!!:shakeno::boohoo::ninja:

I had the pick!!

I can honestly say that my buddy mitch and I were at Shula's screaming out Cromarties name at the 16th pick......Jason Allen safety Tennessee.:shakeno:
I was ticked off then and I kinda still am when you compare the two but Saban was in love with the SEC and basically only drafted players from that conference. I do see hope for Jason Allen but he's no Cromartie!!

he hardly played in college

it would have been a ballsy move to draft him

there is enough to blame Saban about without knocking every player he passed on

i sure as hell credit Saban for taking Ronnie Brown over Cedric Benson. whew can you imagine having Benson added to our list of problems right now? ugh

Will Allen played alot better after the "guru" left

I think Jason Allen will get even better.

I think Saban totally screwed up Jason and he wasn't exactly great for YBell

I don't know if there has been a more overrated DB expert than the Nicktator.

the best DB from LSU in the NFL has been Gay and that was prolly because of cheating

Hey remember passing on that Tom Brady guy. Oh what about TO or Marcus Colston and MB III and who can forget us passing Herschel Walker and Antonio Gates man we must be blind to pass on these guys. Please no one and i mean no one knows who will be good and who wont. We have all seen #1s flop and #1s be hall of fame guys as well as 7th round flops and 7trh round gems.

If Cromartie breaks his ankle in our training camp . . . we would be RIPPING the pick about as bad as we do the Eddie Moore Pick . . . because Cromartie stayed injured at FSU. Hypothetical . . . yea . . . but so is going back to a previous draft and say who we could of had.

Actually, I'm not knocking any player he passed on, quite the contrary. I'm knocking them for passing on a player. :sidelol:...I know what you meant though...again, this came to me because I was thinking how a good CB is a huge need for us right now and that I'm not real thrilled with any of the prospects coming out this year, especially for where and when we could pick one.

All I wanted in my life was for Cromartie to be the pick, but I knew it wouldn't happen. I was furiously yelling at the top of my lungs in a sports bar in Montreal. I was terribly pissed with the Allen pick. I understood the lack of playing experience, but teams had game tape from when he did play. He was clearly a phenomenal talent on the field for FSU.

It's rare that a corner deserves to be a top 5 pick, but that dude did.

What a shame.

Mad props to the Chargers, though.

That said, I'm enamored with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. I think he's a blue chip and should be the first DB off the board. I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen at #7.

Heh, during that draft I worked with Cromartie's aunt, she was pretty cool, and I gave her clear instructions "When we draft your nephew, you get me an autograph and bring him to work on day so I can meet him." Then we drafted Jason Allen. I was upset, I really thought we would go for him, and knowing his aunt so well was a bonus.

Oh well.

I wanted Cromartie much more than Allen that's for sure. I was actually kinda hoping we would get Chad Jackson. He looked like the real deal that year. I was also really high on Marcus McNeill and was kinda hoping for either him or Jackson. I guess we see how that worked out.

Honestly i think alot of you guys think the jason allen pick was a mistake he just needed time to get use to the position. He had a great second half last season 3 int's(should've been 5 if not for a stupid holding and another when randy moss grabbed his arm for pass inter) pretty good in the run game yea he got beat a few times but i really think hes going to be one of the few suprises we have this year.

Totally! I remember I liked him also.....Damn Chargers!!!
