It has been 45 years since the Dolphins last Super Bowl victory. What a season in 1973, my first as a Dolphin fan and their last Super Bowl win. Way too long ago. Now, it seems like every 3 to 4 seasons since fans want to blow everything up and start over again (with good reason), while I keep getting older and older. With the exceptions of Dons Shula, Nick Satan and Jimmy Johnson; we have had horrible coaches and even worse front office people. Now in my mid-50s, I am doubting if I will ever witness another Dolphins Super Bowl victory. I sure hope to, but I am being a realist. However, I have discovered a way of handling the pain of such poor seasons. I embrace the suck of the Dolphins! Other fans should try it as well. It has lessened the pain of 45 years of disappointment and keeps me from jumping off a bridge. Tell me what you think.

I have been a fan for 47yrs. I don't embrace the SUCK, I endure it. And you right, we will probably die before this clueless organization wins a SB. I wouldn't put Satan and Johnson as anything special when they coached here.

Yep. I was 8 years old in 72 and that was the year my parent said I was old enough to choose between going to church or watching football with my older brother. So long church and hello football. Dolphins were on TV every week and Dolphins became most important thing in my childhood, Griese being my idol.

I enjoyed the 80s and 90s as well with #13 throwing the pig. It started to change after Shula and JJ handcuffed Dan the last couple years of his career. Up until around 2000 the Dolphins were the winning-est franchise percentage wise of all the major sports teams.

And then life after Marino happened and been stuck with below average QBs ever since. Took a few years to learn to detach from the Dolphins winning or losing determining my level of happiness.

Then some real estate clown from NY bought this franchise in 2009 and seems to have turned a relatively well run organization into a dysfunctional one.

Sure as hell would be nice to root for a franchise that got their crap together and competed for the playoffs year in and year out along with winning a few SBs along the way. Not a lot of joy on Sunday afternoons when a 10-11 win season once a decade and getting blown out in the WC game is considered a special season.

I was there for the first Dolphins play, Joe Auer's 100 ydish kickoff return for a TD and I understand your feelings 100%.

Funny thing, it all started with the Wanny days years ago the conditioning of the merry go round effect of this new Dolphins era and have tried for the life of me to become less attached. Couldn't do it I was actually addicted to the High's of emotion the team had brought me all those Shula years. But must confess after these last 10 years and seeing the same Ground Hog day have gotten to the point of very little expectations. In fact don't even watch much of the games at times any more I would never have been able to do that earlier, but it grew to be just to painful and to much of a bummer and I knew that there was little to no hope though I still hoped. Very Sad...

But I (we) did see this team grow into a real force and become not only consistent winners but champions. Superbowl winners, perfect season, some of the best players their ever will be ( Czonk, Warfield, Stephenson and some of the highlight games that have gone down in history. That Chargers Game we actual lost Wow what a game. Marino and the win over the undefeated bears wow.... Dan Marino now there was a true gift...so the point is ya kinda have to be grateful for all those years and actually experiencing a competency and greatness which is pretty rare and we haven't felt in over 20 years. Be grateful for once experiencing that feeling in your gut after a great or superbowl win, damn we are the lucky ones....Funny todays fans see getting to a playoff as a big thing and though I know you understand, but our expectations don't even start there...

Truthfully I'm with you I doubt I'll ever see us on that level rather my hope is that we get to being a consistent well run and able to compete with anyone team..........Cross your fingers because thats about all we can do....but we did know the emotional highs of what a real team is like....and I'm grateful for that....

What a Joy it has been to have watched this man throw the football. Or something like that said about Danny Boy. Miss watching him sling the pigskin around...........

I agree w the OP in so many ways. While I still watch the games, them losing doesn’t ruin my week like it once did. But in today’s NFL, that all can change if we find a great QB somehow. Here’s to that happening soon. We are due.

56 years old and started watching during the playoffs the year before you, bro.

The season before RW "retired" the first time, I think it was after the damned loss to NE where the Phins blew a 14 point lead in the last 5 minutes, I realized I needed to distance myself from this team. Up until that point, I would be bummed out after every loss until around Thursday.
Let's see, I have broken a remote, threw a glass of grapefruit / vodka at the TV, kicked a hole in the paneling; that's off the top of my head …
It's ridiculous to let something you have absolutely no control over dominate your emotions like that. Just too emotionally invested.

I don't embrace the suckitude, but I enter every season now with low expectations and in the rare season where we don't absolutely suck, there's only been two of those since 2000, well, it's just an upside surprise.

I was able to embrace the suck in 2007. Haven't really been able to since.

To be fair, we weren’t exactly a model franchise in the later years of Huizenga’s ownership either, especially post-Marino.

Can relate to days of misery after a loss. But you also experience a high and rush not like any other when they won. And they won more often, to where the risks was definitely worth it.

Probably had a few discussions with ya back on the old Herald Forum ( Rico). It was the spot back then. and I remember getting into a RW debate several times. Him leaving and being accepted coming back was a huge debate back then...
