Last year. Fisrt game against Buffalo. 40-50 yard pass to Ginn. Right when I saw that play, I knew we would win that game. Ginn had a huge game when they had to respect our passing game. How many times did CP10 throw it past 10 yards against Atl? Why can't we have an NFL caliber offense and throw the ball downfield once in a while to keep defenses out of the box??????????

bc it's not every day you get your deep threat lined up against a gimpy cb and is actually far enough ahead of the defender to give penny confidence enough to lob it up for grabs.

McGee was playing on a gimpy knee (a REALLY gimpy knee). I know Ginn had a huge game and that was great and all, but it wasn't because he dominated a healthy CB. Unfortunately.

and Buffalo's defense is FAR better than Atlanta's

EDIT: Forgot about McGee's Gimpy knee

i dont think pennington has the same mental confidence right now that he did at that time...... unless ginn is in broward county by himself i don't think he will throw it, and even that is a stretch........ this is just speculation by me, but that pick in the redzone where ed reed came out of no where and picked penny off in the playoffs i think has mentally damaged the dude.....

What excuses do you guys have for the other amazing long passes CP completed last year? Ginn in the back of the end zone at home where our guy calling the game said "let me re-insert my eyeballs!" 2 long passes in week 17 to Ginn. There were quite a few.

shhhh dont speak about the passing game....we here at Finheaven believe that passes beyond 8.75 yds dissapear into narnia with whoever catches it....dolphins football is between the hashes dude, and our wing receivers will only get the ball if they come inside those hashes and under 8.75 yds of course....better delete the post before the Chad P and Offense poops gold posters get on here and try to disprove everything 100 years of american football has taught us

Two of those passes were off flea flickers where Chad had time to really step into the throw and they were both right down the middle. The Jets one was also udnerthrown.

Yea I call for atleast a couple games to start off with a PA play, sending Ginn downfield, if its there take it if not go short. No need to run it up the middle first play of the game every game. Take advantage of that first play. Set the tone. (Not every game or else it wouldnt work obviously)

You actually see teams do this a lot, throw it deep downfield on the first play....just to set a tone and make sure the D is going to respect the fact that they will try it....

People put so much into the deep ball...
So you guys rather have Rex Grossman be our QB right now?

there were 38 passes over 20 yards and 8 passes over 40 yards.. Now there will be some responses to this post saying the reciever was the reasonf ro the large gains, but for the 40 yarders, i know for a fact at least 4 were IN THE AIR.. The receptions against Buffalo, Seattle, The Houston game to Cobbs was about a 40 yard pass in the air, NYJ.. Chad can throw a deep ball, the only thing is he has less zip on it.

I think the point of the thread in real context is, starting off like that, whether you complete the pass or not, does 2 things:

1. It puts a mental picture in the DB's minds, D coord's mind..and keep the DB playing honest, whether you completed the pass or not. By starting off with the dink and donk, the DB's game plan is confirmed and they go all out. Our receivers where hit by a lot of LB's, because as all LB's jobs are, check for run, then pass..but it was not secrete when we were going to pass, and hitting 5 yard pass puts the reciever in front of the safeties and cb's, and about the same area as the LB's, in most cases in front of the LB's, they could fly to the receivers, and if they miss, still have a 2nd wave of db's coming after the receivers.. With atlanta, we had our RB's going thur DL, and LB's mixed with safeties, and we actually had our receivers going through Lb's then the 2nd wave of DB's...You're suppose to get pass the LB's in the passing game most of the time, and just have the db's to deal with..we didn't do that..so not only did the RB's have to go thur 3 layers of d players, but our wr's caught the ball in positions that had them going thru 2 layers.. Crazy..

2. Ginn's speed can scare ppl, and they need to be reinforced that they are right to be scared..thus giving the OL, regular DL to LB'r blocking drills, instead of DL to LB'r plus Safely schemes.. At some point during each drive a deep pass should have been attempted to remind the DB's to play off the line..in the atl game I saw the db's actually 7-8 yards off the LOS...and we ran the ball...I kept thinking huh.. and then when we didn't run, we tried a 5-7 drop with blitzing lb's and safties..chad has to trust and let the ball go.. since he didn't he ate the sack, and since he'd never let go of the ball atl kept attacking the same way..so by doing so, they blitz the run and pass...never fearing the release.. In just about every situation, Ginn was passing by his guy, but chad would glimsp his way just before he caught up to his man, and then look the other way, never knowing Ginn was gone..as soon as Ginn gets two steps from the DB, chad should let it go.. he doesn't have to wait for Ginn to pass the guy, just let it go, 3 things will happen, Ginn catches a TD, the DB interferes or Ginn will have stop a Int.. I think the first 2 will happen more than the 3rd.. The other part of using ginn, it open the underneath stuff to everyone else..

USE GINN's speed miami..dangit..it's just that simple

It's actually less to do with the deep ball and more to do with ball velocity.

People want wr's to get separation.

What's the point in getting separation, when you have a floating ball coming your way, the defenders are closing the separation by the time the ball gets there anyways.

That is what is preventing yac.

This is also why we suck on 3rd and longs.

When the defense is sitting at the first down marker, you have very small windows the throw the ball in.

This includes small windows in size AND time.

There is no way around it.

We can gameplan around Pennington on first and tens, etc.

We can play-action and let Chad hit a short drag route, etc. on those downs.
And we can play to his strengths.

The problem comes in obvious passing downs, like on 3rd and long.

In those situations, we CAN'T help Pennington with play calling.

He has to hit those windows. No way around it.

That is why we were horrible on 3rd and long last year, and so far this year.
