McGee was playing on a gimpy knee (a REALLY gimpy knee). I know Ginn had a huge game and that was great and all, but it wasn't because he dominated a healthy CB. Unfortunately.
I think the point of the thread in real context is, starting off like that, whether you complete the pass or not, does 2 things:
1. It puts a mental picture in the DB's minds, D coord's mind..and keep the DB playing honest, whether you completed the pass or not. By starting off with the dink and donk, the DB's game plan is confirmed and they go all out. Our receivers where hit by a lot of LB's, because as all LB's jobs are, check for run, then pass..but it was not secrete when we were going to pass, and hitting 5 yard pass puts the reciever in front of the safeties and cb's, and about the same area as the LB's, in most cases in front of the LB's, they could fly to the receivers, and if they miss, still have a 2nd wave of db's coming after the receivers.. With atlanta, we had our RB's going thur DL, and LB's mixed with safeties, and we actually had our receivers going through Lb's then the 2nd wave of DB's...You're suppose to get pass the LB's in the passing game most of the time, and just have the db's to deal with..we didn't do that..so not only did the RB's have to go thur 3 layers of d players, but our wr's caught the ball in positions that had them going thru 2 layers.. Crazy..
2. Ginn's speed can scare ppl, and they need to be reinforced that they are right to be scared..thus giving the OL, regular DL to LB'r blocking drills, instead of DL to LB'r plus Safely schemes.. At some point during each drive a deep pass should have been attempted to remind the DB's to play off the line..in the atl game I saw the db's actually 7-8 yards off the LOS...and we ran the ball...I kept thinking huh.. and then when we didn't run, we tried a 5-7 drop with blitzing lb's and safties..chad has to trust and let the ball go.. since he didn't he ate the sack, and since he'd never let go of the ball atl kept attacking the same way..so by doing so, they blitz the run and pass...never fearing the release.. In just about every situation, Ginn was passing by his guy, but chad would glimsp his way just before he caught up to his man, and then look the other way, never knowing Ginn was gone..as soon as Ginn gets two steps from the DB, chad should let it go.. he doesn't have to wait for Ginn to pass the guy, just let it go, 3 things will happen, Ginn catches a TD, the DB interferes or Ginn will have stop a Int.. I think the first 2 will happen more than the 3rd.. The other part of using ginn, it open the underneath stuff to everyone else..
USE GINN's speed miami..dangit..it's just that simple
