Remember when the Colts were going 16-0 and they could be the best team that has ever played the sport?

I remember those days fondly.

Their overrated defense was exposed and Peyton was Playoff Peyton.

Just thought I'd bring that up.:)

I don't think I'd put this one on Peyton so much. He struggled early but he wasn't getting time to throw and the offense was off-balance due to the fact that they weren't on the field for minutes at a time due to Pittsburgh. and he made it a game in the end.

I attribute this loss to Pittsburgh brilliantly adapting their game plan to fit the Colts defense and hitting their soft zone defense with a series of well-placed passes. The Colt defense just gave up too many big plays.

The Colts are so stupid. This is what happens when you don't draft well and get crappy role players like the ones they have on their OL other than Tarik Glenn. They draft undersized, slow guys that can't compete physically just because they fit the system. Stupidest draft approach ever.

I think Peyton and the offense don't get enough heat for these playof loses. Everybody tries to put it on their defense, even though none of Indy's playoff loses, including the one against us in 2000 were high scoring affairs. In fact if that offense could just reach their average scoring per game, they probably would have won all of them. Last year in NE, they scored a whopping 3 points, was that the defenses fault??? Give Pittsburgh credit, great gameplan until they almost blew it with Cowher ball at the end, but Indy's great offensive players disappear when the heat is on. Manning and Brady (Denver rattled the coolest of the cool) are out. I love it.

I don't see where the Manning dislike is coming from. I really wanted him to get his ring this year.

Me too. I'ts not dislike at all. I think it's the truth. the proof is in the pudding. The Colts Offense can't get it done in crucnh time. The D has given
up an amount of points that the offense should be able to overcome in every Colts playoff game I've seen. The offense derserves the heat, not the defense.

Also, Manning just slammed his o-line in an interview. Manning and Brady whining on back to back days, what's the world coming too.

The D would have likely given up more points if they weren't playing the Steelers, who are famous for running out the clock by running every play in the second half when they have a lead.

The defense gave up big plays. Had the defense given up points on long sustained drives due to fatigue, I might agree with you, but a lot of the points they gave up were due to big plays downfield.

Nah, I don't agree. It's the offense that's supposed to be great not the defense. They should have forced Pittsburgh to score 30+ to beat them, if they did and Pittsburgh scored over 30 i'd agree. Also, like I said 3 points in NE last season was not on the D. This is the same thinking I use when I'm harder on Chambers and McMichael for dropped passes than I am on Gus Frerrotte for inaccurate throws. We all feel the Dolphins are all set at WR and TE but need a QB. Being harder on Gus wouldn't be logical IMHO.

Last year I DID call out the Colt offense in that game. I just feel the defense is more to blame in this game, by forcing the offense to play from behind most of the game and by keeping them off the field for such long spells of time that they were out of rhythm.

Don't take that to mean I'm not making the offense culpable at ALL (the offensive line didn't protect Manning well and he overthrew a lot of receivers early), but I more blame the defense.

the colts' defense was designed to play with the lead. period. you can't blame them for what happened today. they're designed to create turnovers against teams that are desperate to score points on them. it works, especially with the team they have on offense. the offense never got them that lead, and the steelers' passing game was highly methodical today. no desperation. the colts' D needed manning and co. to get a few first downs to hold off pittsburgh's early momentum, and their O didn't come through.

i count myself as saying in Week 8 they were pretenders... i'll try to find one of many links...

but then, fling enough dunk against a wall, and...

i want to emphasize this part because i'm not trying to start an argument. i do believe that the colts' D did what it was supposed to do and the O didn't, but proper respectful tone is tough to get through on a message board.

funny about the dung... i think the sports guy made some kind of corollary to his gambling rules about betting on a manning in the playoffs...

Sadly for the Colts their season seemed to come apart right when Dungy's son killed himself. They lost all their momentum around this time. Manning is gonna continue to be questioned as a great QB as he is now 3-6 in the playoffs.
