Losing the starting job gives us great leverage to reneg because it keeps his options closed on the open market and he would be foolish to push for his release.

I wonder if Saban is masterfully playing this QB situation so that next year, when Feeley may have a firm grip on the offense, he has no outside courtship and he is forced to resign here and possibly out perform his paycheck?

Imagine if he had a decent year as the starter this year and then we were forced to make a decision as to whether to keep him at his current salary. He would have all the leverage and the same amount of experience in the system but, this way he'll have the experience and no leverage.

Conspiracy, yes, far out....?????

I know everyone thinks that Saban is the mad genius but this seems a little ridiculous. In his first year down here I think Saban would put his best product on the field. If he thought that Feeley was his best chance to win he'd start him, not make him 3rd string so he can renegotiate and then start him next year. It's a pretty funny conspiracy theory, but unfortunately, highly unlikely.

I doubt Saban is doing that, if Feeley was the better quarterback he would be starting imo. Saban would cut him if he thought he wasnt worth the $, and keep him if he thought he was. Feeley looks pretty pissed off, Personally i dont see him wanting to re-sign with him which will lead to him being cut due to the large figure hes making next season.

In my personal opinion, AJ is done with the fins. I believe that if he had any value, Saban would have him as the #2 QB and not the #3. For some reason, he did not seem to grasp the scheme as well as the coach wanted and Sage did. I also wonder if we will see Sage sometime during the regular season or if Gus is going to continue to lead the ship. Either way, I believe the QB situation will be addressed either through the draft or the off season. I could care less right now, I am excited about this season and the way the team looks so far.

Who said AJ was his best chance to win this year?
If Saban is any good at all, he certainly would have thought of this. I did.
It's as simple as locking up a player that may hold value due to his experience in your system rather than paying him what his current contract calls for. Any good GM would think at least this far down the road.

Feeley is not going to be a Dolphin next season. We're not looking to keep him, nor do we have any reason to keep him. We're actively looking for another quarterback, investigating leads like Couch and Ramsey. Notice the whole big focus on improving the bottom of the roster? Guess which quarterback is on the bottom of the roster?

Some of the responses in this thread have been less than thought provoking to say the least...of course the board is being over run with that same attitude....it's a shame to see that long term members have no qualms about contributing to the over-all drop in quality that these sort of posts force upon this MB.

To the person who said that he would be the number two if he had potential, do you not see how that flys directly in the face of what I'm saying? The lower he is on the depth chart the less leverage he has to reneg his contract.

True, I personally don't believe AJ was his best chance to win this year. But it does seem as though AJ lacked the ability to grasp Linehan's system. It may be an experience thing, but remember that Sage had the same amount of experience. I don't think Saban sees AJ as the answer or I personally feel he would have left him at number 2. If he saw the possibility of a future he would be trying to get him snaps with better players. Again this is all speculation and if Saban was thinking as far ahead as you were, I'd applaud him.

I don't like posting back to back in the same thread but I didn't see this until after I posted my previous response and by the time I edited my post who knows how many others could have replied.

I understand what you're saying about dropping him on the depth chart to give him less leverage but honestly, how much leverage does he have? If he had been an above average QB last year and had fallen off purely due to system, I'd agree with what you were saying, but honestly AJ has never shown that spark except in Philly. Also, if you want him to learn the system, you've got to give him something to learn it with, and he's not going to get enough snaps being 3rd string to learn much this year.

Hey, I thought long and hard on my response.

In fairness none of us know how many snaps or how much individual teaching that AJ is going to receive this year, speaking in generalities though, that may be a good point.
