Ryan Tannehill had the kind of day Adam Gase will want to duplicate this season — efficient (20-of-29), with limited risk-taking. Gase has given Tannehill freedom he never enjoyed before, which includes using his legs for a 22-yard gain on the first play of the night and later calling an audible — imagine that — to move into field-goal range in the two-minute drill at the end of the half. Zac Dysert did a nice job leading a touchdown drive to open the second half.
Grade: A (extra credit for a call of “Omaha!” in the second half)
Running backs
Arian Foster probably won the starting job Thursday night. Foster’s stats were modest — five carries for 10 yards, two receptions for 20 — but he scored a touchdown and simply looked the part of a featured back, making good decisions with nice cut-backs. Jay Ajayi had seven carries but managed only 11 yards. Isaiah Pead, coming off a big day vs. Dallas, was reduced to spectator most of the game. Damien Williams scored a much-needed touchdown.
Grade: B

Tannehill had a game Gase would like to duplicate? 155 yards and a pick? Foster averaged 2 ypc.

Did you even watch the game? The way Tanny was going through his reads, his pocket presence, making adjustments and actually looking the part was a sight to see. I'd like to think its progress. Don't just pull numbers from the stat board, the pick was a fluke.

Don't let the improvement of the OL skew your thoughts on how the offense played overall. It was refreshing to see Tannehill with time to scan the field and find the open man but they are still shooting themselves in the foot. Unfortunate interception, couple of dumb penalties, run blocking needs to get better. I am impressed how well Steen played given that he has never played center until this week. Loved the tempo and you could see how gassed the Falcons were ending the half. That will pay big time for the running game in the second half. Defense played with better discipline although still some containment issues. Howard needs to get well and get on the field because Tony Lippett is bad. Real bad.

Overall much better than against Dallas but still a long way to go.

Steen's performance begs to question how good is Pouncey? What does he have left with those hips? I would suggest let Pouncey sit for several games to heal completely and be the backup. If Steen struggles then he goes back in. If Steen excels then I would consider trading Pouncey in the off-season or consider moving him to guard.

Well we looked a hell of a lot better than Atlanta last night, who looked like hot garbage without Jones.

Tannehill called "Omaha"? Priceless.

Doughty used it. Pretty sure I heard Tannehill call out "SEAHAWK" though.

QB needs to compete better on 3rd down, the check downs were stupid.

The pick was a lucky deflection that Stills just missed the reception. I will not even count it as a pick for Tannehill. RT looked good. He ran a new offense well. I believe that is really all you can ask for at this moment.

I hope we aren't planning on relying on those wide receiver pick plays that Denver and New England used to use with regularity and with great success. It was a great exploit like two years ago but I don't think you're going to get away with it much this season or going forward.

Tannehill looked very comfortable in the no huddle. Something for yrs Philbin promised. I don't expect him to master the offense out the gate but I do expect a huge learning curve that should become very positive as the season goes on with this improve pass blocking.

Defense on the other hand didnt look good and I never expected this defense to be good.

Nothing illegal with a rub play, and it sets up a fake rub. Just like the bubble screens set up the fake bubble screens
