Report: Dolphins gig Gruden's 'if he wants it'

I thought the wildcat was going to revolutionize the nfl lol

Gruden scares the **** out of me. The notion that's been floated around that he truly wants to implement a spread system with a dual threat quarterback that he's learned studying with college coaches like Chip Kelly makes me absolutely crazy.

why because it hasnt been done? what about before the west coast? it hadnt been done either. now look at the NFL. Gruden is a west coast guy. thats not going to change. he might add some spread principles to his offense but hes not changing fundamentally

Do you have proof of this? I'd need some to feel comfortable about hiring him.

The spread option will not work in the NFL. At least that's my opinion. It's success in college is fundamentally based, in my view, on taking advantage of inferior athletes playing with inferior technique on defense. That's not the case in the NFL.

Just make Mel Kiper our GM. He'll fix everything.

Right there with you. I told a buddy that the thing that worries me about Gruden is he thinks he's smarter than everybody else. I could just see us sitting at #1 and Gruden taking RG3 to show everyone what a great developer of QB's he is.

Is Gruden not known for hating working with young qbs? I always thought that he always went for vetrans not to mention he won with Tony Dungy's team. I for one am not excited to hear that Gruden is the #1 candidate.

So long as Gruden does himself a favor, and drafts one of the top QB' s in the draft I'm cool with hin.He may be a hardass, but the players themself complain about how soft practice is.Its almost like the coaches don't push the players.....

IMO Gruden is the best coach that could use our current offensive personnel and make it work on offense. Everyone else would have to rebuild.

Just don't make him the GM.

That will help with the rebuild of the phins, new uni's, new coach with the chucky theme, new Qb, new president man it only gets better!

I think it's more the scheme and having the players to run it.

It essentially nullifies the pass rush, because the ball is out of there very quickly most of the time, and it's incredibly difficult to cover very agile players in space, no matter how agile you are yourself.

of course i dont have proof. but think about it. Gruden was groomed in the west coast. its who he is. hes won a super bowl with it. and rich gannon developed from a journeyman to an NFL MVP with it. common sense would seem to indicate hes not going to change that. i dont think u have any worries.

as far as the spread. it certainly COULD work in the NFL. and some principles do already. New England runs an awful lot. Gruden would probably incorporate what he believes would be successful in his west coast. thats what coaches do (unless ur sparano) grow as they move on. in college the spread initially allowed teams with less physical talent compete with teams that were superior.

now if u are talking about the SPREAD OPTION. perhaps thats a different story. and yes that could work as well.. BUT it would take an awfully special guy at QB. AND theres a pretty HUGE injury risk concern. so u probably need 2 guys behind center. so its just not a great idea seemingly

Spread doesn't work in the NFL....Patriots and Packers offenses are awful...shut down every week. You don't run a spread option...but a fast paced, 4 wide, 3 or 5 step drop offense...where your QB needs to have a quick release and accuracy above all else. Luck would be a perfect fit for that.
