Report: Dolphins gig Gruden's 'if he wants it'

Spread doesn't work in the NFL....Patriots and Packers offenses are awful...shut down every week. You don't run a spread option...but a fast paced, 4 wide, 3 or 5 step drop offense...where your QB needs to have a quick release and accuracy above all else. Luck would be a perfect fit for that.
That's the kind of offense I was referring to above. I don't think even quality NFL corners can cover extremely agile players in space, when there's a very accurate QB throwing to them. And if the ball is coming out quickly, there goes the pass rush.

I wonder if Gruden has already accepted in principle and has told them to keep Sparano until the end of the year.

As long as Gruden is not in charge of free agency and draft pics... i'm in
'

of course i dont have proof. but think about it. Gruden was groomed in the west coast. its who he is. hes won a super bowl with it. and rich gannon developed from a journeyman to an NFL MVP with it. common sense would seem to indicate hes not going to change that. i dont think u have any worries.

as far as the spread. it certainly COULD work in the NFL. and some principles do already. New England runs an awful lot. Gruden would probably incorporate what he believes would be successful in his west coast. thats what coaches do (unless ur sparano) grow as they move on. in college the spread initially allowed teams with less physical talent compete with teams that were superior.

now if u are talking about the SPREAD OPTION. perhaps thats a different story. and yes that could work as well.. BUT it would take an awfully special guy at QB. AND theres a pretty HUGE injury risk concern. so u probably need 2 guys behind center. so its just not a great idea seemingly

The spread option is what I'm talking about. He's spent a lot of time with coaches like Oregon's Chip Kelly in his downtime and the rumors are that he wants to implement that kind of system in his next coaching job. Needless to say, I think that's utter lunacy. Let him experiment on someone else.

just please do not give him any power over personnel.

Unfortunately he could very well insist on shopping for the groceries. We'll draft Luck and then he'll bring in another couple of FA QBs and then start his mad QB rotation like he did in his final season in Tampa.

How about Andy Reid if he becomes available? I do like Gruden, but there may be some other surprises out there as well.

I don't care how bad the Eagles have looked so far, I find it really hard to believe they fire Reid.

If they did, though, he'd leapfrog Fisher as my top pick for head coach.

sure lets wait around for Reid. because 2nd best works for us. lets go get a guy thats perpetually coming up jUST short, instead of a guy thats won it all. the inmates are running the asylum in philadelphia, just like they have been in miami. the eagles bought their own hype. just like vontae davis. lets go with a guy that DOESNT command!!! because thats what we want in OUR general.

lets go get Robert E Lee. lets find a way to be good, but find a way to lose anyways. reid would be right at home in this division, he could come in 2nd every year to the pats

beautiful. u just love 2nd place dont u? u must just love the underdog -because thats what we would be to turn this thing around if u had your choice. reid wouldnt be the worst guy to bring in, but hed be far far far from the best

Yup. I love second place. Love it.

And I'll tell you what I hate: 10 win seasons, always being a contender, getting to the Super Bowl, being at the forefront of offensive innovations, drafting well. That's what Andy Reid has brought to Philadelphia, and I would hate to have that here.

Pray tell... who is your choice to bring in as head coach?

Dude, I live in Philly and have watched a ton of eagle games over the years, Reid flat out sucks, get real guys! It was reids decision to throw a **** load of money on Vick, and Vick sucks big time, he can't read defenses. Reid also took an OL coach and promoted him to DC, the whole thing is a joke. I can't even believe you would like to have Reid here. He's been coaching the eagles for 14 years, 1 Superbowl and they lost.

He rotated QB's his final yr in Tampa because he didn't have ONE.

gruden. u can have your 10 wins and 2nd place in the division. ill take a LEADER, and ill take my chances we actually WIN SUPER BOWLS. u can have your competition for 2nd place. leave that **** at the door. u want 2nd? go be a jets fan, cause **** is gonna change around here

I'm fine with Gruden being the next head coach. As far as him wanting to implement an Oregon style spread offense, I have to think that the guy is smart enough to realize that kind of thing won't work in the NFL on a fulltime basis. Sure, some elements of it can be successful. Don't think for a second that Belichick hasn't used some of the principles of Urban Meyer's offense at Florida and Utah, and incorporated it into his own offense in New England. It can be done, you just have to know what elements will translate to the NFL and what won't. Besides, Gruden is and always will be a WCO guy. He cut his teeth in the NFL with this offense, and I could never see him going away from it. Besides most WCO's you see today have grown and expanded far beyond the basic princples of the Bill Walsh WCO. Who's to say that spread elements aren't the next big step in the evolution of the WCO?
