Report: Ex-Fins Asst. Turner should be cleared of scandal

Jim Turner got his coaching opportunity at Texas A & M partly because he was Mike Sherman's first cousin. He did OK and got his big break when Mike was appointed the Dolphin Offensive Coordinator. He had no NFL Coaching experience before coming to Miami. He was probably out of his depth in the role and deserved to be fired on pure performance alone. On top of that the bullying scandal happened on his watch and brought the team to its knees. He also had the distinction of giving blow up dolls to all his players (including a blow up male doll for an allegedly gay guy on the team as a joke). Real classy stuff that highlghted his poor judgement. In contrast, Benton has over 10 years experience as an NFL O-line Coach. We upgraded big time.
Incidentally, Turner apparently got a 2 year payout as compensation for his total failure in the role. He was a very bad appointment. Joe's trust in Mike's cousin Jim, was misplaced.

Bingo. Turner may become a decent NFL coach down the line, but before he came here, he was set to go to Texas Tech. Tech is a bit of a stepdown from A&M due to lack of money and area (getting kids to go to West Texas is insanely hard) so the move up was not a good one... at least not to head OL coach right away. John Benton went from Colorado State to the Rams but he was their assistant OL coach learning the tricks of the trade on the pros.

He needs to go back to college.
