Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald stated that Parcells wants Crowder back at MLB and Crowder wants to be back, but that the two sides are far aparts still as far as money is concerned.

Well, isn't that the same thing they have said about Yeremiah Bell?

This tells me that Parcells mindset is that he doesn't want to create anymore holes, but to add to the talent that we had or upgrade/replace those holes or weaklinks that we had on the team last season.

Something tells me that Crowder will be back next season.

We already expect Vernon Carey, Yeremiah Bell, and Andre Goodman to be back. And many expect Renaldo Hill to be back at least in some capacity, if not as a starter.

Well, this means that if MIA doesn't come to an agreement with our starting MLB....Crowder will be the one given the franchise tag.

That's right. I said it. Crowder should be the one franchise tagged if he doesn't come to an agreement with Parcells on a long term deal.

It makes all the sense in the world anyways. Even if we were planning on drafting an ILB, we'd want Crowder franchised for one more year until the rookie is ready or even ever pans out.

There is no guarantee any of the potential FA's out there like Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, or Karlos Kanby will be available or even sign with us if they are.

The smart thing is to draft someone, if we don't like Crowder (which according to the report, Parcells "does" like Crowder) and franchise tag Crowder as insurance until the rookie is ready.

It also allows us the flexibility to go BPA at #25 instead of being forced to go "need" like we did at #1 with Long. We actually had no choice but to go with Long because we had no LT.

Of course, we had the luxury of having the #1 pick. But this year, we don't. So, we have to bring back at least Carey, Bell, Crowder, and Goodman back...if not, Hill also.

Carey must definitely be our #1 priority to sign to a long term contract, followed by Bell, Goodman, and Hill. Then, try to sign Crowder to a long term contract also. But if we can't just slap the franchise tag on him and have our starter until our rookie is ready to start.

Words of Wisdom for the Wise...:D

Look at the source of the story...............................Armando has no credibility in my mind.

I don't think it is a big loss if Channing Crowder is not a Phin in 2009.

I'm saying this now. My prediction is that Bobby Carpenter will be one of our ILBs this year. I have a feeling that Tuna wants to see what he drafted and will try again to get him this year. I think Crowder and Carpenter in the middle could potentially be a great combination as well.

Nice sig. I would love Barden to become a Dolphin's receiver. Dude lit it up this year for us. Only broke a few record this year by some dude named Jerry Rice.

As for Crowder. I think 1st or 2nd round we get a ILB and will move Crowder back to OLB to take Roth's spot.

Didn't you the exact same thing about VC, that he will get tagged and atleast we'll have him for one more year. Are you just trying to cover every player and get one right?

Tagging a player that clearly does not deserve top dollar sets a bad precedent to our next group of FA's that will come in and say if Channing is worth X then surely I'm worth X+.

Some of the best moves are the signings you didn't make and players trying to get more money then they deserve are good non-signings.

how isn't it a big loss?

You saw what our D was like against KC when he wasn't in the lineup.
I don't care if he "doesn't force turnovers, the dude makes the stops when he has to and he is probably our most well rounded linebacker.

You could franchise him but you would be paying top dollar, That's a lot of money against our cap for next year, which could potentially limit our free agent options.

.:D

Crowder is one of the holes on the defense. The defensive scheme is designed for the WILB and SS to make the majority of the tackles. That's why Crowder had all those tackles. Yes, we sucked in KC without him. But all that proves is that Akin Ayodele is a horrible WILB. Crowder has great athletic ability but lacks the elite instincts that the stars at the position have. He often fills the wrong hole, and then has to make the tackle from behind. He is usually a step or two late getting to where he needs to be. That is why, in 4 years, he has a total of 11 tackles for no gain or loss. That's an average of less than 3 per season. That is absolutely horrible for a starting LB. He was asked to blitz a lot in 2008. And he had 0 sacks. He only has 1.5 sacks for his career. He has 3 forced fumbles in his career. He has 0 career INT. This is why the team and the player are far apart in negotiations. The team wants him back at a reasonable price, and could select a rookie to compete with him, or move him to the SILB role, which is less demanding. The player wants to be paid like he's a star. He's not. But, I won't say that he won't be back. That's because I think that he's going to find there is a lot less demand for his services than he thinks. When he gets weak offers from other teams, coming back to Miami may be his preference, even if it will be in a different role.

The first half D of that game was terrible. We only allowed 7 points in the 2nd half.

Crowder can be replaced. He is not a big, physical MLB - especially not in a 3-4 defense. I have never been overly impressed when watching him play. Sure, he makes tackles - all 7 to 8 yards downfield. You look at great defenses and you know that the MLB is going to make a big play when you need it. Have you ever felt that Crowder was going to come up with a big play when the Fins needed one? I haven't.

I think that the other teams can watch film too and that will keep Crowder from the 'big' contract. I like to see him re-signed but at the right price. I origionally thought about moving him back outside but BP likes more dynamic players there.
