wow, heard on the local station here in Tampa that a Dallas radio station is reporting Mike Leach has reached a deal with the hurricanes.

JUST A RUMOR RIGHT NOW! but a radio station in dallas IS reporting this. i think it's "The Ticket." sorry, i didn't catch it all!

discuss.

Thats the Texas Tech guy right?

Seems a little out of left field hire for them, not very high profile. Maybe thats what they need though.

that really blows if it's true

yeah it is weird. maybe it's because the offense has been so horrible recently.

Interesting.

From what I've read the guy is a respected coach.
Super offense and that's what this program needs along with new blood infused into it.

I worry about the impact on FL. recruits though.
Schiano would have been the top guy since he's a proven coach and has deep ties into FL. recruiting. He's gone though so so be it.

Maybe this guy can steal some of that rich TX. High School talent.

They hire Leach and keep Shannon...That would be a pretty good Offense Defense duo

If your Shannon, do you stay?????

He will be wanted by many schools.

Yeah...but he couldn't get the rich Texas HS talent while he was in Texas. He got the cheapened leftovers, for the most part.

decent hire IMO. He's a great offensive coach, but his teams can never get out of the 20's in rankings because of the lack of interest in going to Texas Tech.

as did A&M. Most top Texas recruits don't want to aa specialty school like Tech or A&M; though A&M gets more top recruits because of superior facilities. The big time Texas recruits will go o either UT or OU, while A&M gets the second tier guys with the occasional studs (Goodson and Bennett). Tech normally gets the 3rd tier guys/JUCO transfers.

That was my thought. In a weak pool of qualified coaches and quite a few programs looking... I would think he would get a chance to be HC somewhere.

if you ask me, this makes less sense than the green bay packers hiring for their head coach the offensive coordinator of the worst offense in the nfl.

I don't like Leach at all and think they could've found 30 better candidates in the bottom of a trash can. The offense they run is dissimilar to Miami's, and I can't see Miami developing that kind of system. I guess Shalalalalala just chose the guy who seemed the nicest. Again.

Ignore the rumors of an impending press conference introducing Mike Leach as the next coach at the University of Miami.

Leach remains a candidate for the job, but the meeting between he and the Miami search committee headed by Paul Dee apparently didn't go well enough for Miami to offer him the job just yet

Randy Shannon is believed to be meeting with the committee today in New York. And there might be some new candidates emerging into the mix.

A large portion of the college football world is in New York right now for the National Football Foundation's College Football Hall of Fame Induction. And now that Schiano, whom many expected to get the job, is out of the picture, sources tell CaneSport there is increased interest in the job among prospective coaches.

CaneSport has previously reported that West Virginia Coach Rich Rodriguez was interested in the job but his $2 million buyout is believed to be an obstacle.

Texas Christian Coach Gary Patterson is another coach believed to be on Miami's radar screen....

Jimmy Johnson was coaching Oklahoma St before he accepted the Cane job.You could say he was relatively obscure too.

The program needs to rebuild and and its a good idea to get a up and comer...as long as he is the right guy.

Why?? last time I looked that offense is the reason they are the laughing stock of the powerhouse programs.
