Reports: Ichiro, M's on verge of 5-year extension

Report: Ichiro could make $100M in deal with Mariners

Multiple media reports in Seattle are reporting that Ichiro Suzuki and the Mariners are on the verge of a five-year contract extension. The Seattle Times says that the deal could be worth almost $100 million.

Thats a whole lotta cash right there. He is a good lead-off hitter but i dont think that the mariners are going that far in the next 5 years.

The guy is one of the best lead off hitters in the game, hell, one of the best HITTERS in the game on top of being a gold glove outfielder. It's a bargain.

If they get any starting pitching they could be VERY dangerous, they are right in the playoff chase with a great bullpen and an offense that can compete with anyone.
 
6 years here and he still doesnt speak english? what was up with the interpreter? You would think he would want to at least learn some english to get by.

if i played ball in japan im sure my japanese would be passable at best, and i would still use an interpreter. i dont see any wrong in it.
he is gettin paid to play ball, and as far as i can see his english (of lack of) isnt interfering w/ it when communicating on field/club house.

He understands and can speak english....you could tell he was ready to answer the minute the question was asked...long before his interpreter started to "translate".

The interpreter is more for comfort I suppose or a ruse to protect him for testing in front of Congress someday...ala....Sammy "I no speak english" Sosa...even though he too can.

Dang if Ichiro is on steroids he gotta be on the worst steroids out there cuz they are doing nothing for him.

A friend from seattle told me that just does it in press conferences, that he feels like his English is not good enough to face such a big body of press, and therefore is more comfortable with the interpreter there. Which I can understand. Sometimes I wish I could pull that one off.
