Reservations about new OC

I don't have reservations but I also don't understand how some posters are convinced he's a genius. I just viewed a laundry list of superlatives in another thread that make Lazor seem like a combination of Bill Walsh, John Wooden and Al Scates.

His Virginia offenses were moderate. I watch tons of ACC football. Those teams were not particularly talented so I never cared to focus on the offensive coordinator. They did have a strange tendency to change quarterbacks during a game but my impression was that it was Mike London's preference.

I like his age. I'm convinced you're supposed to take a swing at high upside with candidates in their 30s or early 40s. That was one of the problems I had with the Philbin choice. Heck, he's my age and I'm already getting forgetful. Plus I've lost distance on the golf course. We need altitude in Miami. That's such a cheap rescue of 30 yards.

I was happy when Sherman was hired. An ex head coach in the NFL going back to the role that earned him that gig? I was stoked.

It didnt work out.

This is of course going in a different direction. We are giving a guy this position who has worked his way up and this is the highest he has gone. Working under Kelly is what I love, and I really hope he took it all in over the season. I absolutely love Kelly's offense and this he is part of the future of the NFL.

Lazor has also called plays before, though not in the NFL.

Its a new direction. I like the move better than I would of a Kubiak hire.

I'm probably one of the biggest homers here! LOL AND I'M ALWAYS HAPPY!

I just don't understand all the adulation for an unproven commodity! Plus he looks like mark brunnell! One poster on another thread said " I'm so stoked, now I will know what winning is like on a week to week basis" most on here never heard of him till he interviewed!

It seems everytime we sign somebody or hire a coach its some genius move where we outsmart everybody else. I have no real issue with the hire he seems a solid guy, just no a lot of body of work to really judge him on.
I had wanted Tom Clements as our OC when Henning decided to retire and he seems to be working out solid for Green Bay. My preference would have been Kubiak although I doubt he had interest in this job t this time.
I don't see anything mind blowing about the hire but definitely don't see anything bad to say about the hire. None of the canidates outside of Kubiak excited me. Shanahan started to grow on me but Im quite open to this hire and it in no way seems like the Daboll hire which I really hated. Daboll had done nothing to that point to even be considered for our OC job and yet we hired him.

As for age I don't see a reason for that to be a real factor although NFL teams have went crazy trying to overpromote their younger assistants over more qualified and proven guys . I think they somehow get some perception that hiring a really young coach is somehow better. Personally I wish teams would just choose who they feel is best for the job instead of trying to get the so called up and comer like when Kiffin got his head coaching job. Somehow an ultra qualified guy like Perry Felwell cannot get a head coaching gig but Raheem Morris did. There is no data to show that hiring a younger coordinator or coach is advantageous in any way.
I hope Lazor develops Tannehill because we may be changing Oc's regardless next season if Philbin continues to do a poor job as coach. Solid hire hard to say homerun or otherwise because his OC history is minimal and no one can say his time at VA made him really stand out.

Heres to hoping he does a great job. Now please fire Jim Turner.

Everyone really have some valid points but in the end, time will tell. I'm not going to complain about Lazor being the OC at this point. We'll see what he brings. He's saying all the right things but most of them do when they get hired. I like the fact he's up and coming and I know he's going to work hard to make a name for himself. I also know that he can work with young QB's so that's a plus. We'll see what happens.

I don't think anyone's said he's a genius. For anyone who comes in here and hasn't called plays before in the NFL there's going to be a learning curve, just like McAdoo will have one. But I like this guy, a lot.

I like that he has worked with great coaches. I like that he's had success with Foles. I like his ideas, and his energy.

And the main reason I want him here is because of Ryan Tannehill. If you take Philbin and Tannehill out of the equation and start over, then it may be a different story, but this is perfect for us.
