The Dolphins signed Isa Abdul-Quddus to a three-year, $12.75-million deal this offseason, feeling the five-year veteran's intellect, athleticism and coverage range could make him the perfect complement to strong safety Reshad Jones' aggressive style of play.
Problem is Jones, a 2015 Pro Bowler, has opted to skip all of the Dolphins' voluntary offseason work while campaigning for a new contract. As a result, Abdul-Quddus and Jones haven't been able to work on their chemistry, which could hinder a secondary that was overhauled this offseason.

i think we've all have been thinking about this a little, I know I have.

He needs to get his greedy ass in here and do this BS next year! Serious A-hole move on his part!

I'm not going to pretend I know the business side of the NFL. But from where I sit and from what I've read everything seems to indicate that the guy is being paid well. Now it would seem like he's trying to hold the team hostage to be paid even more well.

I couldn't run an NFL franchise or anything comparable to it because I know I would levy some serious action towards players that try that crap!

While this may be true, at least it's a player who has experience in the league, I get its a new system and chemistry thing but someone else has to be able to play if he were to get injured right? So let the younger guys soak some of this stuff in - I think he will be back when mandatory camp starts- when it will really start to matter.

The funny thing is when the team says ok lets lock up a player with possible upside, like they did with Jones, and said player is unhappy with contact and wants to hold out if the team were to give in every time whats the point of locking them in earlier? Team has to hold its leverage and Jones doesn't really have much unless he wants to pay the fines.

Super weak on Jones part. Team extended him early after he tested positive too. He was becoming my favorite Fin but I'm not feeling the cash grab after one great season

He's been one of my favorite players the last couple years but this crap is stupid. Already one of the highest paid safeties dude....

It would be nice for them all to gel, but there is still more of the summer left. Plus like Albert said, it'll give some other guys a shot.

Not a fan of our safety depth really though honestly.. Wish we would've kept Cedric Thompson around

Yup weak safety depth just like weak CB depth (even questionable starters or at least at one boundary spot) but if these backups get some extra time early that's fine with me, I mean they may have to play at least some if Jones were to go down with a minor injury.

I'm not worried about it yet. He's been pretty quiet. Would not be surprised if he shows up come camp. If he doesn't get the contract he wants, then he got a bit of time off instead. If he was grossly underpaid, I could see a lengthy holdout, but he's not.

I love his production, but I was getting put off by all his self promotion, pro bowl campaigning, hula dances after INTs, before this situation. Doesn't seem like the biggest team player.

And before someone says it, I get its his livelihood and he needs to make his money while he can, but this can't be great for team morale.

Watch him come back and pull a hammy. Never fails.

Wouldn't mind giving Ifo a shot in there. I think he could do well.

Last year he was easily my favorite player....but **** it, let him sit.

He's paid very well - He was the 6th highest paid safety coming into this offseason, now the 8th highest paid... he also has the 3rd most guaranteed money of ANY safety and more than Earl Thomas (who is absolutely superior to him).

Anyways, this IS his leverage, though. He probably won't get anything out of this, but this is his move to make. I don't like it, but from the business perspective, he's doing okay.

Now, if he holds out come July/August then it's a real problem. This is voluntary camp... he's fine.

With that said, I've never liked his extremely me-first attitude on the field, very obnoxious, pompous, too ****y, comes off like a giant **** sucker. He'll be celebrating hard after a good play even if the team is down 20 - hate **** like that. Still... he's a great player, so we let it slide. When Jimmy Wilson was doing that routinely? I was stoked he is gone.
