Reshad Jones ****ing Blows

rewatching the game I saw Jones make a couple big mistakes. On Welker's 99 yard TD he was flat, but if he didn't take a risk at going for the ball in all likely hood that's not a 99 yard TD. But that play was on Sapp mostly. The other play I really don't know about is the Slater big catch. I can't really tell from the replay if Jones was supposed to be supporting Vontae inside or not, but he DID bite badly on BRady's playaction.

That being said, aside from Carroll and Sapp, I thught Dansby and Bell were the only 2 that had terrible games on defense. I saw way too many missed tackles from both. I know people want to rag on Smith but his only big play I saw he gave up was after he started cramping. The TD looked like Sapp's fault as Smith was patrolling the middle of the endzone, and he broke towards Gronkowski after he saw Sapp let him go by. Again, I think Sapp gave up that TD playing too shallow.

I do have to give Mike Nolan a lot of flak though. The key to beating the Pats is pressuring Brady, and he called a lot of plays droping a lot of people into coverage. The stops we got were when we sent pressure

He's a strong safety. Tremendous ball skills/instincts.... terrific range... very, very, very physical....fantastic blitzer... smart player who has mastered Saban's complex secondary responsibilities. Doesn't miss tackles, and brings a wallop that ball carriers never forget when they meet #4. He's a little stiff and lumbering in his backpedal... he's not an Eric Berry or Earl Thomas when it comes to matching up one-on-one with quick/slot receivers.

Barron has an extremely high football IQ and leadership qualities in spades. If you want to see how much he means to Bama's defense, just watch the 2nd half of the Auburn game last year after he left with a torn pec.


Robert Lester is the free safety... this guy comes out of nowhere like it's nothing to pick off passes almost every game. He's the guy that has that unique ability to bait quarterbacks into interceptions.

They make up the best safety tandem in the country, and both are no worse than 2nd rounders in my opinion.... if Lester decides to come out early.

i'm a little worried about barron in coverage...but i swear when i watched bama play penn st he was to my eyes the best player on that defense...i really like him...y bells replacement sounds good but do you think he can cover te's etc in the pros??? 6 ft 2 225 lb machine

Absolutely he can cover TE's. You don't have to worry about him in coverage, particularly zone coverage. But like I said, you don't want him matched up with slot receivers in man coverage very often where he has to flip his hips and run... but you don't really want any safety in the NFL doing that either unless it's Eric Berry, Earl Thomas, or Troy Polamalu in my opinion.


Barron played well against Penn St.... he's very athletic. Here's a quick clip of a terrific interception he made in that game....

He's not a rookie...he's a second year player...

WHY IS EVERYONE FORGETTING THIS?
 
Jason Taylor appeared to straight up call Reshad Jones out with his "If you don't get it, get out of the way" comment which I believe was in an answer about Andre Johnson's answer touchdown after we scored that field goal to make it 16-13.

Remember the locker room wasn't happy with the staff having scapegoated Benny Sapp the way they did for the NE defensive performance, they know damn well Reshad Jones hung Sapp out to dry on that 99 yard TD which is what got Sapp fired. So now Reshad is responsible for another mental mistake that gets another corner Nolan Carroll roasted. I think some of those players are naturally going to displace some of the angst they feel about Sapp being treated unfairly, directly onto Reshad Jones.

Wait, what happened with Jason Taylor? I didn't see that in the game?
