Reshad Jones suspended 4 games.

Actually benadryl is on the list because it contains ephedrine.

Benadryl does not contain ephedrine and is not on the list. However, Sudafed and Actifed does contain Pseudoephedrine and are on the banned substance list.

New policy could ease penalties on Adderall

Its the NFLPA that is dragging there feet.

They are dragging their feet because they screwed up with the last CBA when they allowed Goodell to continue to act as Judge, Jury and Executioner when it comes to players appeal.

Stimulants such as Adderall and diuretics could be considered substances of abuse, rather than performance-enhancing, in some cases under the terms of the proposal on a new drug policy between the NFL and its players union.
The deal, however, remains hung up on the commissioner's role in the appeals process.

The NFL concessions include a change to the way the league would treat stimulants and diuretics – and potentially eliminating discipline in some cases, since first violations of the recreational drug policy are met with counseling and treatment, not suspensions.

Basically this says if Dion Jordan was suspended for taking Adderall, he would not have been suspended but placed in the substance abuse program and given counseling.

I agree on that and the fact there would be a lot of players being suspended as well.

So what have we gotten for rewarding Jones with a huge contract? A drop off in level of play and suspension for being a moron. Just another example of why big contracts rarely pay off.

Plus he would not have gained 20 pounds but oh well

The irony is that was one of Irelands only restructures in six years that didn't happen after a protest or holdout. I really believe if you were actually trying to make the worst choice on a lot of Ireland's decisions you probably couldn't have done any worse. I can't figure out if Ireland was just the unluckiest sob of all time or if he actually had an uncanny ability to make the worst possible decision every single time.

Definitely an uncanny ability to make the worst possible decision every single time. And to think there are still Ireland fanboys on this site who still can't see the truth!

Excuse my ignorance. A number of NFL players have failed the test because of adderall. I have seen some reports that it helps the brain focus. I have seen others that it is a powerful sexual enhancer. I have seen others suggesting that it's used as a masking agent to hide steroids. What is the most likely reason that the players are getting caught taking it? Is it also the PED that trapped Reshad Jones?

Helping the brain focus would be my guess as to why its banned. The problem is you can't believe the players when they say its Adderall, so maybe a very small percentage is actually being suspended for Adderall use.

As an aside, I remember seeing a 60 minutes piece (I think it was 60 minutes) years ago about Ritalin, they said it increases brain power without any real negative side effects and predicted that or a drug like it would be a common supplement for everybody in the near future.

Adderall has become a popular drug for athletes trying to gain an edge

The potential lure becomes obvious when Dr. Gary Wadler, past chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List Committee, begins listing off the benefits of Adderall to an athlete.

"It masks fatigue, masks pain, increases arousal — like being in The Zone," begins Wadler, currently an associate professor of medicine at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, in a phone interview.

"It increases alertness, aggressiveness, attention and concentration. It improves reaction time, especially when fatigued. Some think it enhances hand-eye coordination. Some believe it increases the mental aspects of performance."

That's not to mention possible increases in acceleration, speed, strength and power that accrue to Adderall users. It's no wonder that Wadler calls Adderall "one of the quintessential performance-enhancing drugs. There's no question it's a performance-enhancing drug."

Adderall has been banned by virtually every sports organization, from the NCAA to MLB to the NFL. But the NFL, like other sports, allows players who have a medical need for the drug to use it without penalty, after they have applied for and been granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption.

Dr. Don Catlin, the founder and former director of the UCLA Olympic Analytical Lab, and still a member of the International Olympic Committee's medical commission, likens the effect of Adderall to drinking 25 to 30 cups of coffee

"It's very potent," Catlin said. "It jazzes you up, gets you off the line faster. You start faster, move faster, and it can be habit-forming. It's certainly not good for you. If you take too much, it can get your heart racing, cause rhythm disturbances in the heart, and even, if you go to the end of the line, seizures, though it usually doesn't go that far."

Daniel noted that Adderall "works on the same transmitter as cocaine, so you feel more grandiose, confident."

Reshad said he took a supplement without reading the ingredients so we don't know if he really took a Adderall or not. It could be that Jones was stupid enough to take a supplement without reading the ingredients or he took a product from a company that is on the banned list such as Force Factor.

I blame the trainers. It should be their responsibility to put these players on a program and they should demand they not take any of these supplements without their approval.

Im sure that's what happens but when it comes to some type of roids Im sure these players are not asking the trainers. Lets quit blaming trainers for what players are deciding to do on their own. These trainers don't live with them
