This franchise has only had one leadership that has been successful; thankfully, that lasted a long time, the reign of Shula. He ran the ball when we had power runners and he threw the ball when he had Marino. He won Super Bowls, was always in the playoffs, hardly ever had a losing season, had very few penalties and mental mistakes and had more wins than any other coach. We have tried just about everything else since he left and nothing worked. We hired a successful college and NFL coach-Johnson, whose teams were always good, but not great. We promoted from within, his protege, Wanstead (sp?), who rode on Johnson's coat-tails of good, but not great. We've hired successful college coaches, Saban, and that didn't work. We tried hiring successful co-ordinators, Cameron and Philbin, and that didn't work. We even tried bringing in a tried and true franchise ressurecter, Parcells (he helped the Giants, Jets and Patriots), and that failed. What is left to do? Where do we turn? Who do you trust out there to fix our problem? If you were Ross, a non-football guy, short of selling the team, how would you do it?

Before you can resurrect it, you must kill it.

Start by shooting it in the head until it dies.

Please don't forget who moved hell and high water to get Shula out of Baltimore and bring him here: JOE ROBBIE.

AMEN AMEN AMEN! only "Joe" ever worth a damn around this team was Mr Robbie. can't housewife a ho... and ya can't DOLFAN a JetsFan (Ross).

so let's steal a great coach/GM from another organization?

Well yeah, if you want someone with experience, that's how it usually works. If they promote from within this organization like Gaine to GM, I will seriously give up!!

Notice what the 2 successful coaches had. Shula had an edge & would command respect from players & JJ had an edge & a little temper. All the rest were guys that just shook their head, were miserable or looked shell-shocked.
Obviously 1st is to get a good GM, but please for the love of God get a head coach that can lead, adjust & chew out when needed. That Philbin can blindly watch Sherman operate this abortion of an offense is mind boggling.

The problem is it has been killed several times: The last years of the Wanstache, Saban's leaving/no I'm not leaving, the 1-15 season, the list goes on.

Do we need to go back to the one person Coach/GM? like in the days of Shula/Johnson?

That worked with Shula didn't it? In the nostalgia about Shula guys forget who was spending first and second-round draft picks on guys like Eric Kumerow, John Bosa, Lorenzo Hampton, Sammie Smith, Jay Brophy, Eddie Blake, Aubrey Beavers, Scott Schwedes, etc. When Shula was great, he had great front offices--Joe Thomas, Bobby Beathard and George Young built those teams that Shula won with. You need a great GM who will hopefully hire a great coach and assemble great players. We've given Shula, Johnson, Wannstadt and Saban the dual GM/HC role, it doesn't work and even if you're a great coach you can be undermined by being a poor GM, see Shula or Saban as examples. There are no guarantees in the NFL, just because you go the coordinator route, the retread route, the HC/GM route, you can still fail. Success generally begins with ownership and for all the fellating of the Robbies, the Robbies let Shula become the franchise and they wouldn't rein him in, toward the end they were no different then Huizenga.

How many coaches are there out there, employed or not, that you would trust 100% with this franchise?

We have to get someone that can actually get the team guys that can produce. Not get rid of players worth anything. And draft well.
This team will fix the problems. But how long is the question. And with who at the helm.

There's no right plan, only right people...doesn't matter where they come from.

And while I think Ross knows what to do (ie: Harbaugh), I fear he doesn't know how to do it (ie: Harbaugh)...

Interesting that you say this. I've felt for a while that the team needs to stop looking at resumes and start looking at people.

The head coach should not necessarily be a guru coordinator. He should be someone who can manage the strategy of the game, organize the team, and lead the men under his direction.

I think it's time to look at position coaches and even guys with a less traditional background. If you want to find the next Don Shula, go find the next Don Shula. Don Shula wasn't a guy with 10 years as a coordinator. He had what, three years as a defensive backs coach before being named head coach of the Colts?
