The idea is not a new one but taking it to an extreme level is. What about a team full of transformers so to speak. With all the hype about athletes who can play more than one position and the trifecta expressing how they like versatile players it lead me to think how far back could we realistically shave a roster. What if we could shave 13 or so players off a 53 man roster that would put us way under the cap and allow us to go after some extra premier talent.
For example (sample roster):
2QB
3RB
1FB
5WR
1WR/TE/KR/PR
1TE
1TE/LS
1C
1RG
1LG
1RG/LG/C
1LT
1RT
1LT/RT
1NT
2DE
1NT/DE
1SOLB
1WOLB
1SOLB/WOLB
1SILB
1WILB
1SILB/WILB
5CB
2S
1CB/S
1K/P

That would be a total of 40 players on the roster and leave a lot of money to add wherever we wanted. Thats just one idea it could be done many different ways.

note:( [I realize some of my player position combinations are extremely rare or may have never been tried such as a TE/LS or K/P, however still if these weren't possible and maybe we could only shave a few spots instead of 13 it still would help]

Thoughts on the roster idea itself, or if it there may be more hybrid players tried at other positions in the future, or any knowledge of coaches trying things in the past or unique players such as a K/P(don't think that has ever been done)???Could the next step in revolutionizing the game of football be a roster of transformer/hybrid types?

Not a good idea in an injury ridden sport like the NFL. I think some of your ideas are legitmate in concept such as a LS that can actually play a position other than LS. In actuality most players cannot play multiple positions.

You could have players who can fill in at multiple positions on the O and D line, but it would not work anywhere else.

It's hard for me to take this idea seriously. No offense, but you're trying to re-invent the wheel with this "revolutionary" square thing that doesn't move nearly as smoothly or effectively as the wheel.

Well pat white can play all 26 positions. Im including K P, LS and holder

Im sensing some sarcasim....lol

If he is the LS and the Punter, would he then snap it to himself and kick it?

I don't know there has been some QB/WR/RB players and I think at one time we had a TE/LS and also there may have been a few CB/S

The other problem with this is that there's a certain trade off with guys being able to play multiple positions. You would have a roster full of guys that do a lot of stuff just okay. It's probably better to have guys that are really good at one thing (maybe two). It also cuts down on mental mistakes if guys limit how much they are doing.

The players you would be cutting are not highly paid in the first place. Those bottom players are going to be pretty much at minimum wage. I don't think they would make room for much...only 2 or 3 decent players at most...and I believe we already have space below the cap anyway...so, not sure why we would do that.

But.. Juan Huron told me it had potential to which I responded an a capella version of "Wind Beneath my Wings".

This is seriously the worst idea in the history of sports. Nevermind that the logistics of it are not legal in the NFL.

This is why you are not an NFL executive. Well, that, and the fact it probably requires a high school diploma.

That last part was pretty uncalled for.
