Rex and Idzik gone as per Jets Twitter account

What options will the Jets look at?
casserly and wolf will be leading the search. they are well respected. the jets have a crapton of cap room and the #6 pick. it's also a high profile job bein gin NY. its going to be an attractive job, so i'd assume most of thew top names will be interested.

lucky they get to start over, while we will be sitting at 4-12 / 5-11 next year.......caaaaaaaant wait

On one hand, Itzdick got a raw deal having to dig himself out of Tannenbaum's cap hell and being saddled with Rex instead of hiring a HC in his own vision. OTOH, he couldn't be more transparent in the way he tried to conserve cap space and sabotage Rex, going all in on the possibility that Woody retains him while firing the foot perv. Guess he could have played his hand better, especially now that he also sabotaged his own chances of getting a GM offer in the foreseeable future.

The #Jets have reached out to #Vikings assistant GM George Paton, source says. They tried to get him last time, too.

It's definitely an attractive job right now for the reasons you gave.

On the other hand:
- a lot of cap room is great if you have a base created and you want to add pieces. But the Jets have nearly 20 players who are not under contract next year. Of the remaining 30 plus player you have to sort out. No GM will be blinded by the cap room knowing that they have to sign at least 20 players to have a squad. Your cap room will be eaten up by that alone.
- the high profile job in NY comes with the downfall of it being high profile. If something is not going right the highprofile NY job will become a curse rather fast

My prediction: Dolphins and Jets will sit at the bottom of the East for years to come. Buffalo is much closer to NE than the Dolphins and Jets combined.

You have no quarterback and little hope of getting one.

Tampa isn't passing on Mariota, no matter what they say in the months to come. And Winston, if he even declares, will be going right behind Mariota at number 2. Even if Tennessee does the unlikely and trades for Cutler, giving Winston millions of dollars and letting him run around New York is a recipe for disaster.

New York isn't going to be an easy fix. And the spotlight that comes with that job is going to make that it a hard sell. With these jobs being so scarce you'll get someone willing to take the chance, and i even think they could be competent, but i'd consider it to be the least attractive opening of those currently available. Yes, i consider the Raiders opening to be more appealing to potential candidates.
