the guy is a stud but:

- is a MLB worth a first round pick for a 3-4 team?

- Mayock says he isn't a 3 down player, is he more likely to stay on the field on 3rd down in our scheme?

IMO he will be a GREAT fit in a 3-4 system. He'll play every down in the NFL I think. Coverage isn't his strong suit, but, we've got that covered. If he drops to us, I'd be stoked.

Ray Lewis went 26th to Baltimore so I'm thinking that worked out well for taking a MLB in the first. I'm not saying Rey Rey is like Lewis coming out but we're not pass on a future star MLB because it's the 1st round.

I agree. Does anyone think that Tuna would have passed on a Patrick Willis or a Brian Urlacher because it was the first? Of course not.

All the negative stuff on maualuga is crap. It just seems to me like the typical "talk badly about a player so he drops to our team" kinda talk.

maualuga will be a top 20 pick, if not a top 15, and he'll have a huge impact on his team... i have a gut feeling some team will draft a player in the top 10 and they'll be looking back at that draft thinking the same thing some dolfans are:

" why ted ginn instead of pat willis ? "

( i'm not comparing the styles of the two players AT ALL, i'm simply predicting a similar impact on the team he'll go to)

the ILB position is being de-valued by nfl teams, and understandably so, because IMO it's the position where you have the least ammount of impactful players. But when something special comes up, a tatupu, a ray lewis, a pat willis, a maualuga, you can't see that player simply as a ILB. Those guys are hard nosed football players, leaders, incredible athletes and carry an intimidating presence

If Rey Rey is there at #25 we have to take him. He just hammers people and causes all kinds of fumbles and problems. I don't think he will drop to us but you never know. I also wouldn't mind Clay Matthews.

If Rey Rey is there at 20, I'd like to see us trade up. My worst nightmare is him falling to 23... shudder.

I completely agree. There is a very good chance that he falls to the 20s, but we will very likely have to jump past the Patsies to get him.

I wouldn't say it's crap. The character issues are a bit overblown since most of the stuff he's done is from him being an underclassmen and college just having fun, but since his dad died he's matured, but he still does things that are a little stupid (grinding Erin Andrews when she wasn't looking).

He's fallen a bit because of some lackluster workouts, and a poor wonderlic test. Rey Rey isn't the smartest LB in the world, which does hurt him a bit because he's a ILB/MLB all the way. Cushing and Matthews havie had great workouts but also add more versatility than Rey Rey (Cushing can drop into coverage and as a sophomore did play DE, Matthews is a good pass rusher).

If he's at 25 I'd take him.

Patrick Willis went 9th, Jerod Mayo 10th, Timmons 15th. actually, lately it's the 3-4 ILBs who are getting picked in round 1, not the 4-3 MLBs.

With Crowder, who is very intelligent, manning the other side, Maualuga wouldn't have to necessarily be as intelligent. Crowder will do the play calling and Maualuga could do the play making.

well crowder and maualuga would be sick since crowder lacks instinct(chooses the wrong hole to plug in running plays), rey rey would cover up the mistakes

what worries me outside the intellience is the fact that you would be putting 2 guys for three downs with average coverage skills. good OC with spread attacks like Philly, Denver, Houston, Indy would eat us alive
