Do you think we should have tried to trade up in the 2nd round to get Rey Maualuga of USC. It might have cost us a 4th rounder (or more) to move up several places to get him. I realize there was some criticism about him being a bit stiff and not great in pass coverage, but man can that guy hit. I saw several video clips of him knocking helmets off opponents. He was slow at the combine, but ran in the low 4.6s at his pro day. He seemed like a great value in round 2. I am excited about Pat White in the wildcat, but it didn't seem like a value pick in round 2. Since he lacks the most desired height and weight of a NFL QB (6'4", 220 lbs), it seems that if he doesn't perform up to expectations in the wildcat then he will never have much future trade value (i.e. like John Beck). On the other hand, Rey Maualuga may not turn into an all-pro (although he could be), but at least I think he will be a solid starter at inside linebacker in this league for many years. I wish we would have gone after Rey Maualuga in round 2 instead of Pat White. What do you think?

I thought he was going to be our 1st rounder when he was still there. After we passed on him then we obviously had no interest in him. Either he didnt fit what we are trying to do or Ireland didnt see much in him. Either way, we were not going to trade up for him.

One reason I had heard (reading various articles) Maualuga fell is that he was known to freelance and not follow what the coaches told him to do in game situations. From what I know of our FO that made him undesirable.

honestly, I wanted rey mauluga more than any other player. with that being said, Im happy that we were able to select pat white with our second round pick. I believe we have found the x-factor. pat white is special.. no doubt in my mind, though, rey maualuga will be special, as well. The only problem is rey plays for the bungles. the bungles SUCK!

The Wildcat package is what the Dolphins Triple Brass had in mind that resulted in Pat White overal selection, as oppossed to select any body else al that level.

It’s one thing to run a gimmick, to me it’s another thing to draft for it. I think you draft for solid fundamental football. Maulaluga will be around long after the wildcat is gone. I guess that’s why I don’t make the big bucks though, eh?

Maualuga is a paper tiger. No pun intended, been saying it for weeks.

The Wildcat is not a gimmick ! Its a version of the Single Wing formation. I highly doubt that Maulaluga will be around long after the wildcat is gone because even if teams stopped using it now it would still be a formation in a playbook so its not going anywhere !

yes i think we should of trade up for him and got pat white in the third i kno he would of been there and pat turner would of been in the fourth

I think we should have tried to trade down 1 spot where
New England did at 26 and by doing so New England ended up with 2 extra third round draft picks which they ended up trading for 2 second round draft picks in 2010

Even if we would have kept the extra picks instead of trading them away like new england...how would have two extra picks in the third enabled us to move up and make deals

Say what you will about New England but its moves like this that help you to remain at the top
