Rich Gannon impressed with Dolphins Coaching Staff

I thought Gannon had "lost respect for Philbin" because they signed Chad Johnson. From what I recall, he and his buddy Schein blasted the Dolphins on their radio show. You mean Gannon changed his opinion once he actually visited the team and saw what was going on?

Thank you...I was hoping someone brought up when he bashed them weeks ago. Amazing how things can turn just by some nice words....in 2 weeks, Gannon might be the biggest moron on this board again.

Take any of these talking heads with a grain of salt...its nice he's saying something....but it can turn again quickly.

Has the Dead Sea of Dolfandom parted?

see the big thing with the Philbin hiring I liked was that (while the intention or not) we had to do our due diligence in picking a new HC. At 22 years old, Philbin is the 4th HC since I've really been able to follow the process. The previous 3 were hires I knew were gonna happen as soon as the job opened up. After Fisher decided to go to the Rams, I honestly had no idea who we would chose, and I kind of forgot about Philbin because of his son's death.

When he interviewed, he was so impressive he left Carl Peterson and Jeff Ireland speechless.

The staff is also impressive in that most of the guys are known for developing players in their level of expertise.

One of the things that I heard about the team that made me feel good is that guys are loose now and the coaching style is more player friendly. This old-school thing of screaming at guys and being all hard-ass and rigid is stupid and just makes players tighten up and walk around worried and I think it actually serves as a distraction to the real work. I'm glad to hear that players are more relaxed and feel good about being there and that itself will translate to better play.

I agree with what Rich is talking about.

I've been impressed by the staff too. Philbin alone has been a surprise but the whole staff especially has looked good.

Based on what I've seen they appear alike in many ways, the OC, DC and head coach. They really seem to have a unified approach which is totally different than anything we've ever had around here. Going back to JJ and even Shula. The OC, DC and head coach always seemed to be noticably different in approach before.

JJ and his different OCs were never quite in synch, Shula and Olividatti were not alike in any way.

Excited to watch HardKnocks and really learn a little bit about this guy

Looks like Tony's brain would have plenty of room to roam and rattle if transplanted into Philbin's

I'm pretty sure him and Schein were talking smack about the Dolphins when we drafted Tannehill as well.

I refuse to listen to NFL radio when Schein is on. I think he's the worst radio personality they have on that station and he brings nothing worthy of listening to.

I got to ask, knowing this fan base.... How long til people start calling for Philbins head? or Shermans head? is it a 1-5 record? is it 2-9? By what week of the season will the "fire Philbin" threads pop up. Cause most people seem to be excited about this coaching staff now but i wonder at what point will people start bitching about play calling or something like that. Im excited about this staff and am will to give them atleast 2 years to right this ship, atleast to an above avergae record.

Can't we just have camp and preseason with our delusions intact? Man, its like we're not allowed to feel good around here for 5 damn minutes. We have new coaches and players and, for now, by all accounts, things seem to be turning around. Can we just sit back and enjoy some good news for a change without the Debbie-downers telling us how we're bound to be 2-9 soon? Just let me get through the preseason before we start writing off the season.

If he is not successful, it will be ugly. BUT... but... I, for one, am looking at the manner that Joe is going about and doing things. I knew right off the bat that we had made a horrible, horrible mistake with Cam Cameron (between the Ted Ginn Jr. press conference and the Fail Forward Fast crap). When we went 1-15 it was almost a relief that the bozo child would be booted and adults would be brought in to save the franchise.

What I've seen from Cameron so far is just the opposite. You read about how his training camp is getting in twice as many reps each day as Sparano's did. He is, by all accounts, actually holding an open competition for the starting quarterback job!

Unless the team has a Cam Cameron style meltdown, complete with players screaming at him and fighting on the sidelines, he gets two years from me, minimum.

Won't be long with this fan base. Some before training camp even started gave up on Tannehill and are looking towards next year's draft. I am sure it won't be real long before people give up on Philbin.

It's a see-saw. If a coach is friendly and doesn't win enough games, fans will want him fired and be excited about how the new hard-ass coach is bringing discipline and focus. If the hard-ass coach doesn't win enough games, fans will want him fired and be excited about how the new friendly coach is relating to players. If the new friendly coach doesn't win enough games...rinse...repeat
