Ricky Williams continues to astound the sporting world. Everyone has a strong opinion, but most really don't understand what motivates him or, for that matter, why he is even in Davie today. I don't profess to fully understand him either, but I think I do understand Nick Saban.
Many people (including me) never thought this day would ever come. I am still shocked that Ricky is actually part of the Dolphins team again. Many people that he would never give up drugs, and he apparently has. Most people thought he would still weigh close to 195 lbs and he reportedly now weighs much closer to 220 lbs, close to ideal playing weight.
The latest uncertain certainty is whether Ricky is just passing through and the Dolphins become a foster care facility for his NFL rehabilitation or something different, failure being the other option.
The likelihood of Ricky actually being adopted as a permanent member (or at least long-term) of the Dolphins seems unthinkable, but I for one believe that there is a possibility that Ricky may be here for a few years. Why? Because Saban is no fool. If Ricky is truly able to put the past behind and if Wannstedt was more a reason that Ricky left that many thought, Ricky may very well become a great back again, especially in Linehan's offense and running behind Houck line.
Does anyone really think Nick Saban would trade away a great running back for a late draft pick? I thought so before, but I'm not so sure anymore. If Ricky proves himself and the chemistry is right, Saban may choose adoption instead of foster care. Ronnie Brown could compliment Ricky very well and that may have been Saban's intention all along.
This is a developing story that will unfold daily, but I think the possiblity of Ricky staying with this team for longer than this year exists, it's entirely up to Ricky.
