Ricky concerns about fitness and return time

I have read the penalty levied against Ricky and it states he will not be back until Oct 16th. It also says he can not practice with the team or even watch a practice until his return date of Oct 16th.

Does that mean he is expected to suit up, walk onto the field and bang heads with the Bucs, after being off for one month and not practicing? Or do we get a break because there is a bye week and he would have practiced the week before the actual game on Oct 16th? Either way, the article should have been more clear in regards to my question.

If he can't even come back onto a football field until the 16th of October, we can't expect this guy to actually play that game and the more realistic return date would be the following week.

I wonder if Ricky can take it upon himself to go and practice elsewhere.. Maybe just get some reps with a college outfit, just to stay in decent football shape, mentally and physically.

IM glad we have Sammy Morris now, this guy AVGD 4 YPC last season on a train wreck of a football team who couldnt throw the ball long and had the worst O line in the history of our organization. The O line should be much better than last years flavor by gameday and I wouldnt mind taking a look at Price as a 3rd or 4th option. This would most likely mean our favorite little man Welker wouldn't get as much time as we all hoped for. And you would have to think if we do pickup Price, he would be eager to play well vs the Jills.

Does anyone know of a RB in a similar situation to the one Ricky faces now? And if you do, how were the results? Can Ricky practice the week before the Bucs game on the 16th?

GO FINS!!

Ok IM not going to disagree with your opinion, but you have to admit, after not practicing for a month with the team, playing the day will be a little tough for him. And one of my questions I asked was, is this the case? Or can he practice the week coming into the Bucs game?

And don't you agree the Author of the article should have made the more clear?

He's is suspended for "4 games"....not a set number of weeks. Following the Phins 4th game of the year (Oct 9th against Buffalo) the suspension is over. So he can return to the team, meetings, practices, etc on that Monday.

When you put together the training camp and pre-season he just went through, the training program the team will have him on, and the full week of practice leading up to the Bucs game, he will be fine to play in that one.

Ricky is smart. ricky is talented. Ricky will have no problem staying in shape IMO based on his yoga regimine. ricky knows the playbook and they will probably use him on the plays they use in preseason and to be a safety valve. I think it is totally unfair that he has to stay out the extra week because of the bye week. Lewis in Baltimore was enabled to do jail time in the offseason and not have to go through this crap of a month and a half.

Logical concerns but two things:

1: Whos to say that, after being suspended four games, Ricky even PLAYS against the Bucs

2: He took a year off, and not a year off where he stayed in shape and worked out everyday etc etc, he took a year off to chill in the mountains smoking weed, and look, the first couple preseason games were shaky, nothing great, but this last one he looked like the old Ricky, or at least showed glimpses of him. So after a year off it only took him basically three games to get back into his form, I doubt a month will be this hugu step backwards.

you mean the 16th?? That's the first game that he's eligible for.....the suspension is for 4 games, the 4th game is over (and hence the suspension) on Oct. 9th. People always say the 16th, becasue that's will be his first game, but the suspension is effectively over on the 10th.

He'll be in at a backup role against the Bucs. A few carries, but nothing too crazy. Unless Brown is unable to play that week, I don't see it being any different than that.

That pretty much answers my question. Thanks

I found the following item regarding Onterrio Smith and his four game suspension last year. I remember reading somewhere else that the Vikings ran simulated game situations where Smith basically ran nothing but the two minute drill, all day long during his entire suspension, and came back in great shape. This article makes it sound like Ricky will be able to attend meetings and workout with teammates during his suspension.

"ONTERRIO RETURNS

Onterrio Smith returns to action for the Vikings this week. Mike Tice has already announced that Mewalde Moore will remain in the starting lineup, but he also said that Smith will see extensive action. It helps matters that Smith was able to attend team meetings and workout with his teammates during his four-game suspension. Before this season, league rules dictated that teams could not have any contact with suspended players beyond telephone calls, which often resulted in players being more than a little rusty, and perhaps a bit out of shape, upon returning. That shouldn't be the case for Smith, who's done nothing but workout the past month. Tice told the Star-Tribune that Smith looks "fantastic." "
