But I would expect this hype to actually translate at the beginning of next season..

The team will not have the same growing pains and coaching/personnel turnover that sabotaged these past 2 seasons..

With the QB competition being won in the offseason, a reinvigorated running game with the addition of Ricky, and the same stout defense, the Dolphins SHOULD start hot, and stay hot, imo.

We are a better team now then we were last December. The six game winning streak was nice, but we didn't beat the greatest of teams. To me, winning 5 of the past 6 games this season is more impressive because of the teams we beat. We have a much better foundation heading into this upcoming offseason.

You're dead on with that Crypt. Wins comming against the likes of Chicago, Kansas City, Minnesota and New England are all quality victories.

That SOS (strength of win) is much better than last season. Throw out the Lions, and the 4 teams we beat combine for a record of 32-19. Quite impressive Miami, quite impressive.

I could not agree more. We have won games that most expected us to lose. Even looking at our loses we have been in close games for the most part. Its not like teams are tearing us apart. Most of it is us beating ourselves.

If we go 8-1 to finish the year, and still miss the playoffs, I think that will have to be one of the worst feelings in the world for this team...to say that they'll start the season next year with a sense of urgency might be an understatement.

I just see the circumstances as so much different from last year. Last year nobody thought we should be competing, and so nobody was surprised when we were all but eliminated at 3-7. But then we won 6 in a row against mostly mediocre and bad competition, and so that gave everyone this happy feeling with themselves...made everyone think that our winning streak had power and would just continue itself.

To them, last year was a victory, not a defeat.

I think if we go 8-1 to finish the year or even 7-2...and miss the playoffs, they will be bitter, they will be disappointed, and it will all have a totally different feel from last year.

Great post CK. The thought of this team next year is just scary. Next year's Miami team is going to be one that no one wants to play. I just hope JT and Zach can give us at least one more all pro year.

Depending on who retires and/or leaves the team.

Remember, this is a defensive line-led football team...and three of our six biggest cogs on the defensive line are set to leave.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Vonnie Holliday, David Bowens, and Keith Traylor have all been vital to our success two years in a row now. Vonnie and David are UFAs, set to probably receive pretty decent contract offers as well, and Keith is set to retire unless we convince him to play one more year.

I think I remember reading somewhere about a month ago that Traylor was actually talking about putting retirement off and coming back. Not sure where I read that, but I do remember that.

Also, I think Vonnie will get a new contract from the Dolphins.

I was really surprised by S.Morris running for 123 yards today. He played great!! I am proud of him and the O-Line play today. Joey was very patient for three quarters which was a difference maker. You know NE was just out there waiting for us to make a mistake today. We gave them nothing. What an upset!!

I think this is a very important part of the mix..

remember though, 57 of that came on a run with 2 minutes to go when the game was pretty much over

True that. Plus Wilfork was out. He's a beast of a DT.

I've not heard that Traylor is putting off retirement from any credible source that was not purely speculating. We'll see what happens there. The Dolphins will give it a shot, trying to convince him to stay on one more year and try and win us a Super Bowl (he's helped like three teams win the big one).

And don't be so sure on Holliday. He was a highly touted first round pick, he played well in Green Bay in their 3-4 setups and opposite Reggie White...he was a premium player when he went to Kansas City and they mistakenly tried to make him a pass rushing 4-3 end, and now he's been revitalized in Miami as a 3-4 DE and 4-3 DT.

Some teams are going to look at his history and say he was simply miscast in KC...and there are plenty of teams out there that play similar enough DL techniques to warrant attention...from your 4-3 setups right on down to your Tampa Two types that stunt their DLs and play 3-technique a lot.

He could get a pretty decent contract offer.

Meanwhile we've been sitting Matt Roth behind Holliday and Carter, and Roth, not unlike someone like Yeremiah Bell, has been playing too well to keep ignoring. He's always played the run excellently but now he's making plays on the quarterback and in the passing game.

How long can you justify keeping your 2nd round playmaker on the bench behind Holliday, especially when retaining Holliday may require a good deal of money?

Best we can hope for, IMO, is to go ahead and retain David Bowens and Keith Traylor, if possible. I say we let Holliday go...hopefully he gets a BIG contract and that gives us some good compensatory consideration, depending on what we do in free agency w/ regards to someone like Adalius Thomas.

You're absolutely right. We definitely need to get Holliday his contract and keep him here. I think parting with Bowens and Traylor would hurt, but nothing that we couldn't replace in the offseason.

Agreed ... I believe that 2 of Holliday, Bowens, Traylor and Zgonina will not be back next year ....

Bowens is the least important signee .... and will easily be gone ... followed by Zgonina ...

Holliday and Traylor -- we certainly have some use for ... and will have some good value on the FA market as well .... some might even submit that Holliday would be more important than keeping Carter

Wright and Roth will plug in along with Evans ... with Wright [M] and Vickerson being uncertain ...
