I have a deep respect for this guy. I am a diehard Dolphin fan all my life. Living in the DC area I can remember days when the main TV in our home was designated to my brothers watching the Redskins. I took the small black and white to my bedroom and used a coat hanger and my arm to create an antanae functional enough to glimps the Baltimore channel so I could watch the Bert Jones Colts against the Bob Griese Dolphins. Those were the days. I say all of this to highlight my dedication to the team. I really did not despair for too long over Ricky's departure. I kinda got it that Huizenga was killing us for another year when he was keeping Dumbstadt around so the impact of his loss was tempered by this reality.

I posted a Ricky thread some months ago saying that there were 8.5 million reasons why he would return. In the post I compared Ricky's character to McMichael's. I stated that if Saban can tolerate a guy arrested for an altercation with his pregnant wife that would make Ricky was shoe-in. The comparison from a character stand point is a no-brainer.

After today's press conference I am convinced beyond a doubt that Ricky is a truly good person. His ability to apologize for hurting others, his mature and descent handling of questions about his involvement with drugs, his response to questions that could be shaming and disparaging were beyond reproach.

Great job Ricky.

I made one more post about Ricky after he declared he would return. It stated that Ricky will tear the NFL up this year. A man on a mission. Check it out Dolphin fans. Put on your seatbelts and go for the ride of your life, because Ricky is be AWESOME. He will play with a conviction that prior to now he has NEVER felt.

The other posts I have made have been about the cynics on this board - those who keep going on and on about how we will be 8 and 8. You will be on the learning curve - this is no 8 and 8 team baby.

Thank you Ricky and thank you NICKY!

What happened to not making stupid decisions and not having to make up for them in the future?

I understand, I guess, if he just didn't want to play anymore at that point. But there's no denying he's in this for the money. I just can't have respect for a guy who quit a job and on his coworkers because he wanted to do drugs. Who knows what financial implications the other guys had because their team as a whole was horrible last year? It probably was a blessing in disguise for the franchise to have to start the rebuilding early, but I can only limit myself to rooting for Ricky Williams when he's wearing a Miami uniform.

Exactly! Only in today's liberal society can you respect a guy for quitting because he wanted to smoke dope.

There's nothing liberal about your society. You should travel.:D

i definitely support Ricky in his return to the team. However, I don't see (reflecting upon our schedule) where more than 6-7 wins are going to come from. I do feel the team is on the way up and will be far more talented than last year's.

Thats pretty true.. The only place more conservative would probably be the middle east.. The good thing about America is that its as a whole balanced out appropriately.

You're right about that! I think this has always been a place where redemption is possible. So I hope Ricky proves what I think he will and redeem himself on the field. Now that he's back thats what we should all be looking forward to.

Who cares if he wanted to quit his job. If you dont like your job and want to quit for any reason whatsoever.. thats your choice. he made his!
Sometimes being fans cloud peoples rationale.

Regardless, if you quit, you quit. You don't come crawling back because there are 8 million dollars waiting for you to come back. Most jobs don't give you that option when you quit.

Well Ricky is in it for the $. So is everyone else in this business. The game is different then in the early 70's where most players earned enough to be middle class. Today minimum salaries give guys a chance to be closer to upper middle class and certainly elite players live like wealthy men - expensive clothes, luxury and sport cars, beautiful homes and so on. This creates a tension in their lives around how it is they relate to one another. That is who is making more than whom, who is more connected than whom. Salaries are public information and guys are trying to get rich. The level of competition is so fierce it destroys people, even good people.

Add to this mix Dumstadt. A coach with an antequated, uncreative, highly conservative scheme for all 3 dimensions of his team. In addition he lacked motivational skills and ability to know and understand his players, especially his key players. Add to this a GM who put together an offensive line that was deteriorating all the time and QB that simply lacked ability.

If I am Ricky I would quit too. None the less he did it in such a way as to create maximum negativity towards him from Dolphin fans. For this I am aware how unpopular his move was to most. But I argue that our fans are much more forgiving of those involved in much greater transgressions so you do the math.

It sure as hell isn't conservative, which is what it should be.

Ya, but you have to remember, this isnt most jobs. And this is reciprocal.. If Ricky is using the team for money, the team is using him for production (and in a way you could say money as well, more talent = more wins = more money).. If Ricky were some ho-hum football player, the team wouldnt be taking him back. It just so happens the man was blessed with exceptional football ability, and a very disjointed mind, one in which rational decisions were not made.. So, if his employer was willing to take him back, after he apologized, I dont see what the problem is here..

Its not like he wont be able to do his job well..

If you are going to say that somebody has 2 face's then you should probably post the 2 posts that show contradictory.
