This leads up to Ricky. Do you know he led the league in rushing attempts both of his years with the Dolphins? Besides the quarterback of course, can you name one other player on Miami's offense? Have you ever heard him complain of the talent that Miami put around him or lack thereof? We have to understand as fans that these athletes aren't slaves primarily for our fantasy teams.

The fanatical passion in which we follow them doesn't mean a damn thing regarding the constant beating their gifted bodies take for what we think is for the almighty dollar. In my opinion, Miami's personnel decisions had something to do with Ricky leaving--marijuana aside of course--and he probably would have stayed on if the organization wasn't in utter chaos at the time.

Jealousy and envy are a part of life. Don't you think some athletes are envious of their superstar teammates? This envy sometimes plays out in the press or some of Ricky's teammates would have come to bat for him and what he did for the entire organization. Hypothetically, imagine the son of a running back asking his daddy why he is always grunting and grimacing while trying to maneuver the stairs at night.

This has to have an effect on an aging overused runner's thought process for the upcoming season. I think it's utterly disgusting that anytime an athlete mentions his well being he is foolishly and publicly ostracized.

So on another topic, you probably believe that Ronnie Brown is worth what he's asking for, because of the beating he'll take as being an NFL RB? There are soo many things that lead to Ricky quitting/retirement, and I can't relate, but I think the reason he's back is because of money, which I can't blame him for, because regardless of what people wanna think I believe there are more players playing for money than because of the love of the game. Robert Smith is very highly thought of and he retired at age 29 I believe, because he wanted to be functional during the later years of his life, I think Ricky is closer to that thinking than, he quit because of marijuana, or because of any mental problem he has.

ok heres a better example

Many felt Williams' decision to leave his team only days before training camp opened a year ago to be an egregious act of disloyalty, one that was utterly selfish and left the Dolphins in the lurch. It was and his decision did, so what does that make him? A football coach?

Just how many weeks notice would the Miami Dolphins have given Ricky Williams if they felt getting rid of him was in the best interest of their team, as he apparently felt getting rid of them was in the best interest of his mental health?

As for loyalty, in a league that regularly cuts players salaries after first agreeing to pay them, and fires them without the slightest regard to what the player's wants or needs might be, loyalty is hardly a word that should come tumbling out of the mouth of anyone involved in the NFL. The players aren't loyal to their teams and teams aren't loyal to their players. If they were, Joe Montana never would have left the 49ers.

Ronnie wasn't my 1st choice to use the 2nd pick on. but we will see how he turns out. then we all can judge ronnie. its way to much $$ but a 4 -12 team have to do something....

If there were no signing bonuses the writer would have a valid point. A team can cut a player before his contract is up, but then the player gets to keep all the signing bonus he was paid....and get another signing bonus from his new team. In return for that insurance, players are expected to play out the term of their contracts.

Ronnie is worth what he's asking for because that's what the market dictates. There are reports saying Edwards should be able to make $40 million off his contract, while it's likely Ronnie would only see $28-30 million based on the offer he's been given. It doesn't make sense for the guy drafted #3 to make more than the guy at #2. This is the way the draft works. The problem is we haven't had a high draft pick in so long, no one here is used to this kind of negotiating.

:yeahthat:

Let's do a little experiment. Let's tell all NFL players that they will only make 50,000 per year from now on. After that, let's look and see who's left. Fact: Money is a factor with just about every player in the league.

Let's now do another experiment. Let's all get our bosses to cut our pay in half. I mean, we are at our jobs because we like them, right ? Money doesn't play a factor at all in our lives, or our careers. Correct ?

How hypocritical is it of us to point out Ricky's financial motives for coming back, when we'd all probably do the exact same thing ourselves ? I challenge someone here to honestly say that if you were faced with the option of paying over 8 million dollars, or just coming back to the game, that you would cough up the cash and remain in retirement. It's not like Ricky is being a T.O. in this situation.

Don't worry about why he's back. Just sit back, and enjoy the damn game.

Great, so now it was jealous teammates that prompted RW to quit ???

Horse manure....put it to bed..he quit of his own volition (sp) and left his teammates out to dry...

No, it was not envy of other players, it was the TIMING of his quitting...as I recall the comments made in the press by others it was that they supported him if he wished to retire, but the timing of his retiring left his teammates (and the front office) very little recourse to replace him...

Now I heard it all...his jealous teammates made him quit !!!

Uhhhhhh............ I may be a little confused, but Yea, I'm 100% sure that all of us could name someone other than the QB on Miami's offense!!!

For Example.......... Chris Chambers, Rand Mcmichael, Marty Booker, David Boston, Derrius Thompson, Brian Gilmore, Travis Minoir, Sammy Morris, Donald Lee, NEED I name offensive linemen too??? Oh, and if you meant in 2002 when Ricky was doing his thing then..........
Chambers, Gadsden, Mcknight, Dedric Ward, Mcmike, Ed Perry, Jed Weaver, Travis Minor, Rob Konrad, Robert Edwards, and Deon Dyer( I think Dyer was playing those two years)
