Last season, LB Sedrick Hodge for the Saints missed a drug test while on vacation in the offseason. It was his third offense, but a one year suspension was triggered. He appealed the decision, and it appears as if he was not suspended and was allowed to play last season.

If this is true, and Ricky missed the test because he was in India and can test negative now, I think odds are he'll be ok.

Good call Disgustipate. You've motivated me to do some research.

Someone on KFFL pointed it out to me. Here's the only blurb I can find not pertaining to Hodge's first suspension-

HODGE MIGHT BE CLEARED: Starting linebacker Sedrick Hodge believes he will be able to avoid a one-year suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Hodge said he missed a drug test while on vacation during the offseason and believes the matter can be cleared up by producing proof that he was away.

Haslett said the only information he received that Hodge would be suspended was from a CBS Sports report Sunday. Hodge served a four-game suspension for violating the policy last year.

Nice to hear there is still hope!

This actually makes more sense than any of the "Ricky gone for the year, let's just kill him and commit ritual suicide" threads. I guess in this case a couple of plane tickets to India could be considered proof.

NFL rules state all Ricky had to do was tell the league office he was going on vacation (whether it be LA or India or anywhere else on planet earth) for a day or 3 months, and the league would have sent someone there to test him. THE LEAGUE would have bent over backwards for the player.

Ricky is so stupid he didn't even tell the league. Which is a blatant slap in the face to the league.

Well it certainly makes you wonder what Ricky's list of priorities looks like.

i hope he doesnt get suspended.that could cost us a draft pick because of trade or just a good rushing duo once again

I don't think his ignorance of the rules should be reason to suspend him. I'll understand a fine or something but to take him out for a year is basically taking him out of football forever. While one could argue it's his fault for not knowing the rules, I think a year suspension might be too harsh.

I'm investigating this on a Saints BB, but knowing their fanbase, it could take weeks to get an answer.

From what I found so far, it appears the report on Hodge surfaced in October of 2005. That seems to contradict him being on vacation, since it would have been mid-season. Apparently he appealed, but I couldn't find the results to that appeal.

He did miss the last three games of the 2005 season, but I can't find if it was due to injury or suspension.

He knows the rules. Every time you fail a test, you fly to NY. You sign a piece of paper and they go over the phase of the drug policy you are in and what you can and cannot do. They talk to you like you are a 4 year old. He knew the rule. Stop trying to defend this clown!
