Ricky Williams.......Now.....

My feelings on Ricky Williams are known, but one more time I'll rehashl

-He ultimately valued Pot more than his family, and his team.
-He had every opportunity to manage his condition, and chose not to.
-He quit.
-He was a RB that people somehow hold up that "Was used up" when in
fact, THAT is what the position entails, as an essential part of the job.
You should WANT the ball. Always and forever. I've never heard
of another RB complain about that like Ricky, and his appologists.
-He only came back to the game when all the babymommas started raising
hell.

I know people want to remember the football player, and I do. Man, he
was something special. He really was. He could break it and go at any time.

But the reality is he never cared about me, nor you. All he cared about was
Ricky. I don't think that's changed, no matter what he's doing now.

totally agree...i remember in 2004 how mad i was at him. burned my Ricky jersey as a 20 year old kid because his retirement. everything i learned about him following that, his return to football and his life afterward is so enlightened. i can easily say he is one of my all time favorite players. Marino, Duper/Clayton, Zach, Gadsden, and Ricky are my favorite Dolphins. Run Ricky, Run. i wish i could backhand Wannestedt across the mouth for what he did to this organization.
For all the bad, DW gave Ricky the ball.

That's what you are supposed to want as the staple of a smash mouth team.

Unless you're Ricky Williams.

*Shrugs*. I don't get the worship of him as asome near demi-god.

Yes, if you're into philosophical ramblings of a pothead I guess...

You always ignore the positive and only see the negative.

I wish posters like you could be Jets fans and use different message boards.

I am a Dolphins fan for 40 years now and with all the great players they have had Ricky is my favorite player - Man Ricky smoked pot - he didn't kill anyone - beat his wife/girlfriend - do roids he just smoked pot ... I don't know maybe it's just me i don't smoke never did but i just don't see pot as a big concern again maybe it's me ---- Thanks Ricky for some great Years short as they where ---- Run Ricky Run

Ricky put up big numbers and had a nice career in Miami. I forgave him long ago for taking a year off. He has always been a stand up guy.

Do any football players care about you? I'm just curious. I have plenty of players who I love watching play, and I'm pretty sure they have no idea who I am. Is that the standard you have when selecting players to like? If they care about you?

Screw Ricky. He is a piece of **** quitter!

At some point all players quit fooball for whatever reason.
Football has never been the most important thing to him, he was just very good at it.
He came back as a dolphin and gave his all and he never quit on the field which is what counts.

Im pretty sure all Mike Wallace thinks about is mike Wallace. Much like every player and owner in the nfl.
I don't think Ricky had a problem running the ball its just his line was not as good for whatever reason as the previous season and the lack of the team making an effort to put even a decent qb at the helm.
In 2004 the year he quit the dolphins replaced the entire offensive line so Im sure Wiliams was not thinking how great it was to run behind a line of Mcintosh, McKinney,Whitley, Jeno James and John St CLair.
This offensive line ranks in my opinion as the worst line in dolphin history, with last years unit coming in second. This line gave up 52 sacks and was the worst in the NFL at running the ball.
Im pretty sure the prospect of playing with 5 brand new starters did not sit well with a running back that was already taking a beating from the previous year's injury plagued line. That combined with the ineptitude of qb the previous year and not much in sight probably gave Ricky a lot of incentive to call it quits.
More than anything he failed a drug test so not much else he could do.

No.

But I do expect them to care about the people who employ them, if nothing else for the money we provide them.
I expect them to value US, their TEAMMATES, and their FAMILIES more than they value pot.
I don't feel that's too much to ask.

My criteria to choose which players I like are based on lots of factors, but valuing pot more than your
kids? That's a hard one to get past.

I'm surprised so many people just gloss over the fact that the dude willingly chose to smoke weed
rather than provide the best life possible for his loved ones. He had it all for the taking. Everyone
from college (At least) on down was willing to help him in whatever way he needed, but he made the
choice to not be helped, and, he made all the people around him suffer for that choice.

Sorry, not the kind of dude I hold up to the light.

I think you completely missed the point. Why are so many people fixing on the "He didn't care about me" part of my post, and, just ignoring the facts that are in evidence?
Make excuses for him all you like, but what he cared about was Ricky, and, pot. Not me, not you, not his kids, not his family, not his teammates, not his employer.
Just Ricky, and pot.

I don't get why that gets him lionized.

Goon,

People with disorders often make irrational decisions. Not saying that completely excuses what he did but he seems to have turned himself around. When he returned, I saw a more responsible Ricky....

The "fact" is, you don't know Ricky well enough to say he doesn't care about his kids or family. For you to make this claim undermines any credibility you think you have.

I was fortunate enough to have met the guy. We talked for a bit and I can tell you first hand he is an intelligent and compassionate person. You come off as exactly the kind of person that you attack Ricky of being.

Stop projecting.
