Dolphins | R. Williams to be Fined Again
Tue, 4 Oct 2005 19:45:03 -0700

Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports an NFL source confirmed that Miami Dolphins RB Ricky Williams will be fined another four weeks of pay on top of the four weeks of pay he already has missed for the suspension he received for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy. He had been fined the four weeks of pay in the 2004 offseason after testing positive a second time for marijuana use. Williams fought the fine, but the appeal was denied after he tested positive a third time only months later, resulting in the four-game suspension. After he pays the fines, he stands to earn approximately $285,000 for the 2005 season. The first game he can play after serving his suspension is Oct. 16 at Tampa Bay.

No we didn't know that. All we knew was that he was going to be suspended for the first 4 games. Now he will not be paid for the first eight weeks of the season.
Bummer...

I don't have a problem with it! He killed us last year, he needs to suck it up and move on!

that does suck major. I wonder if he will ask for an incentive to be added to his contract in the future.

If he performs I'm sure we'll find him some money next year. Either that or some other team will and we'll get some draft picks

Plus him coming back is really an 8.6 million savings for him so as I see it if we paid him 0 he'd still be +8.6 mil

I think this year and next sould be incentive based contracts. This year less than next.

I'm kinda glad this didnt discourage him ..sshhhheww!

Wow, does anyone know if this has any affect on our cap? I know it would only be a 100k or so but just wondering.

I thought the NFL had penalties for piling on.

Seriously though, fines and suspensions have the goal of modifying behavior. Once the behavior is modified, there comes a point when some might feel the excessive becomes vindictive.

Though I wasn't happy with what transpired in the past, now he's a Dolphin and I tend to want to cut him some slack. Seeing that this was going to happen was probably a reason why they didn't rework any of his numbers since it would be given away any way.

Get all this behind us for the benefit of the team.

I wish the NFL and everyone would just let it go already, the 4 game suspension is fair enough. Suffering the consequences involved facing his teammates, the fans, and the 4 game suspension, he's done all of that. Now why do I feel like this 4 games without pay fine comes out of nowhere... I'm not sure what's with the NFL and fining our players lately... the Welker and TeBucky Jones fines are inexcusable.
