Good to have some confirmation on that (Sun Sentinels as of 1:21 pm). This means at least we'll be clear before the draft. Not saying he's gonna be worth anything trade value wise, but you never know. My take is we'll keep him for the year and go deep into the playoffs with the one-two punch of Ronnie and Ricky. :dolphins:

I never understood why anyone would even consider getting rid of a top 10 NFL RB who doesn't care what he makes.

Great to see an early date set, though

Good find. Thanks.

If Ricky does get suspended we just give the ball to Ronnie and Fred Beasley.....we are set either way, and have depth at Running Back.

I agree. With the trade value more than likely shot for this year and presuming (read hoping) Ricky wins his appeal, we either have an exteremly good insurance at RB, or we just let Ronnie loose to explode as a single back -with some occasional help Beasley or another backup. WIN-WIN for the Dolphins:D

Good news.. At least we will know where we stand before it's too late if he loses the appeal..

Because every year that top 10 rb get's older, the harder it will be to get any trade value for him before his contract runs out. I think keeping him this year would be ok, but next year after another year with Ronnie and drafting need positions this year we should look at trying to trade him. His contract ends in 2007, and we will not have the luxury then of keeping him at such a low contract. Right now we have a steal, but I still would like to try to get some trade value for him by next year and going into the last year of his contract.

With that said, I still think we could get a 2nd round pick for him from 2 teams. COLTS and BRONCOS. Cots only need a running back to replace Edgerin James and I think Ricky would be better than any 2nd rounder they find in the draft this year, and he would be less money then both Edgerin or a first round draft pick this year in which they may have to give up picks to move up in the first round to get a quality rb anyway.

BRONCOS - This all started because the Broncos were looking into a trade for him, and they knew the asking price was a second rounder. They only wanted to give up a 3rd, but I think they would have given in for a 2nd.

Kinda like the trade value the colts got for edge. Isn't it funny that we could end up getting more for ricky than the colts got for edge. (nothing)

Yeah, but we may want a little more depth should Ricky not win the appeal. Setting the date before the draft will allow the team enough time to determine how they want to handle the situation should they lose out on Ricky for a year.

No way we get 2nd rounder right now!

I'd love to see us get a 2nd for Ricky this year, especially after giving ours up for DC (good move and steal as it was), but I don't see it happening. It's not an issue of how Ricky runs while he's ON THE FIELD, but it's whether he fails another drug test and misses a whole year, or whether he flakes out again after being back a year or two.

Remember: if he didn't resign with the fins, Wayne would have pushed for that $8m he owes us due to the arbitrator ruling. Wayne deffered to Saban on that and so far it worked out with a great year. But it hangs in the balance right now with that April 10 hearing.

So, the reason we won't get a 2nd rounder now (unless a team like COLTS or BRONCOS take a huge risk) is because Ricky's future is UNRELIABLE. :rolleyes2

Edge was demanding more money. Ricky will never be able to demand that type of money because one more failed drug test and he's suspended for the year. Colt or Bronco's could probably get him for a pretty good price if they traded for him this year. That's why a 2nd rounder is not un-realistic, and remember Denver was already looking into a trade when all this happened, and they didn't add any top rb's to through free agency.

W/o Ricky we do NOT have RB depth.

Travis Minor and Kay Jay Harris do not equal depth.

If we do lose Ricky, I hope we bring in a proven backup or draft someone in the 4th.

We will add RB depth one way or another

If Ricky loses his appeal 4/10 I'm sure we will add a RB to bolster the depth, which I agree we will need if RW isn't available. That's why we were looking at Devenport and others a little while ago. So in the end - in FA or draft - we'll get another back if the need arises. Stand by.
