ricky's contract

Nothing new except no one has pointed out that Schefter does not know how to figure out NFL payroll. $540k after a 4 game suspension would be $413k not $405k.

Seems like a pretty easy solution. Give him all of his money as incentives he can earn back in the next few years with performance.

Not so easy a solution. Ricky has been down that path before and Steinberg is no fool. To be fair it has to be a combination of base salary and incentives.

The incentives mean nothing if Ricky doe not get a chance to earn them either through non playing time or injury.

My favorite part is that Ricky's agent keeps making statements like "Ricky Williams will NOT play for league minimum." Are you kidding me? The man is $8.6 million in debt, a known flight risk, and has a franchise back in front of him on the depth chart. He's got no business demanding more money.

He is not $8.6 million in debt. By coming back to the Dolphins, they can no longer pursue that $8.6 million. Ricky can ask for any salary he likes, just like any other player. If Miami offers him league minimum, he will not play. If Miami then tries to enforce the $8.6 million because of his failure to return, he will file for bankruptcy and they will receive no compensation.

We WILL pay Ricky a real salary, not the league minimum....one of the many reasons I believe it was foolish to bring him back.

The key there being that he has to COME BACK. His contract states that we only own him his rookie salary if he comes back because he quit before. If he doesn't want to follow the rules of his contract, he won't be back, and he won't be forgiven the debt. Seems pretty simple to me.

Even though I like Ricky, and hope he comes back, he is in no position to be worrying, or negotiating which type of contract he will have. The thing is, we don't NEED Ricky back, we WANT him back. Right now, we have Brown, Gordon, and Harris, who are all good enough backs (at least for me.)

Due to what he did, and the fact that Saban is not stupid, I believe that Ricky will have to play ball with what the Dolphins are offering, and that is how it should be. He will not make league minimum, but I don't think he will make 3.4 million, or whatever it is.

Absolutely not true...that money is owed to the Fins regardless of whether or not Ricky plays another down in Miami or anywhere else. If the Fins decide not to pursue the judgement against him, that is their perogative.

I still don't beleive that Ricky will come back and play, he wants too much money and his heart is not in football he's just trying to settle his debt problem. he won't come back and I'll beleive it when it happens and he actually plays in a game
