I think it's really cool that there's a Samoan influence on the Fins. I've grown up around a lot of Samoan culture, and Samoan people, and now it's cool to have a bunch to cheer for!

Tala Esera is also part Maori, and his wife is Maori, which is sweet because that's a part of my culture and not something I get to see in the NFL.

True most Maori's are New Zealanders, and that means Rugby and part of the All-Blacks. Good to see some in the NFL and part of the Dolphins.

yeah, i like it as well - let them succeed in the nfl and you can already see feature articles and fancy nicknames appearing in the near future... ) what about, to allude to the wwe, "the samoan bulldozers"...!?

I was down for the minicamps and ran into all four in the lobby of the team hotel, where I was staying as well. They were really friendly, they were cutting up and laughing.

Soliai is huge, I'm not small and I couldn't believe how big he was.

Satele & Soliai should definitely make the roster. Mauia is like some shotput that dropped from the sky... totally unheard prior to the draft. and Esera carried a draftable grade going into the draft. All those guys would be great stories if they make the team and perform well because they're all players at positions of need.

new dolphin quartet riding the wave

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphi...1c_fins_0507.html?cxtype=rss&cxsvc=7&cxcat=46 When Miami Dolphins 300-pound rookie offensive lineman Samson Satele saw the news during Day 2 of the NFL Draft, the earth nearly shook.

What happened next sent aftershocks to a small, faraway land in the South Pacific and touched four young men in a way they had never imagine

Dolphins rookies (from left) Tala Esera, Reagan Mauia, Paul Soliai and Samson Satele are part of a trend that has seen a number of Samoan players join the NFL

Miami's fourth-round selection of Utah defensive tackle Paul Soliai thrilled Satele, a fellow Samoan and a Dolphins second-round pick out of the University of Hawaii a day earlier.

"I was jumping, jumping in my hotel room," Satele recalled. "I almost hit the roof."

The Dolphins didn't give Satele too much time to gather himself, picking up college teammates Reagan Mauia, in the sixth round, and Tala Esera, via free agency.

What are the odds, Soliai wondered this past weekend during the rookie's first mini-camp.

"We're all here, and it feels like home," he said. "To be here at the same place, the same area. We have Samoans on other teams, but they're by themselves."

Any one of them could be a monster for the Dolphins but what if all four fed off of each others desire and enthusiasim and all became monsters for the Dolphins?

How 'bout those Island Boys?

I hope all 4 not only make the team but significant contributions as well.

It irks me a little that Steve Fifita is not mentioned.

The key IMO to Fifita staying is Vickerson's progress in Europe.

It could defitnely make the Dolphins unique if all four of them work out for us, I can see that already. I wish them all luck and hope they make the team.

I hope all our new Samoan guys take their strength and conditioning VERY seriously this year. I know it's hot in Samoa and Hawaii, but it's plenty hot and humid in Miami too. They all probably have plenty of strength but eating right and getting that body fat down is important too.

They need to work hard on their stamina. Coaches like Houck and Capers are looking for guys who play hard for 60 minutes. No taking plays off. They better get on those bikes and treadmills and do lots of cardio to make sure they have the endurance and quick recovery they're going to need for those hot September home games. If they get out in that heat and humidity and work hard right now it will pay off and be easier on them at training camp and during the regular season.

I was reading about Warren Sapp with the Raiders and how he's really in good shape this year. He lost about 50 pounds ... from 334 to 285. He said one of the reasons he did it was because he wanted to be ready for playing in the South Florida heat at our home game with the Raiders on Sept. 30th.

"I feel better when I wake up in the morning," he said. "It's a lot easier to get out of bed. Other than that, I just wanted to be in good physical condition to come into this thing and go. I looked at the schedule and we got to go to Miami at the end of September. I know what Florida weather is like. I'm going to spread the word because, if we don't, we're going to come out of there in real bad shape because Florida weather's nothing to be played with in four quarters of football."
