ok. this year we are basically looking at this scenario. we have carey on the left. this last year he played well enough to warrant another year on the left. or so the consensus seems to indicate. now. this draft really doesnt seem to have a no ****, cant miss prospect. ala: ogden, pace.

so heres the deal as i see it. carey can play right and play it well. however hes shown that we might be able to play left well. now do we draft a RT and build from there? or do we let things stand on the right side? draft a stud guard and wait till next year and hope the next pace comes out then draft him?

of course ol vern could be starting to really establish himself as a top left tackle. thus we would have set our line back a year. cause we didnt address the right side, in this tackle deep draft.

but then again. if we draft a stud right tackle. then the new ogden comes out next year. what do we do with vern? i think hes to good a player to just trade away. depending on the offer of course.

my opinion is lets go with what we know. keep vernon on the left. get a stud to lock down the right. if he pans out. our bookends are set. if carey continues his improvement, we have a HUGE piece to the puzzle.

im a huge believer in the trenches first. so lets set them up solid and strong.

the end

I also believe you build the lines...but Carey played Right Guard and Right Tackle in college....thats where I believe he's best playing....lets get a LT....and build the right way.

i agree man. but this year they are saying that there really isnt a standout left tackle, worth taking numero uno.

But there's a great deal of good quality left tackles available on day 1. It's a very good year for LT's.

we released 2 OT's, if we don't take one in the first 3 rounds it will be very suprising

Jake Long
Jeff Otah
Brendan Albert
Sam Baker

ill be happy with any one of them. especially Albert, he can play OG or OT. a massive mauler

outstanding. just the man i was hoping would post. boom, i know youre real high on clady. but what im talking bout is first pick. if we keep first pick, everybody says that there is not a left tackle, worth the 1st pick. now im of the belief that regardless of what number you pick, a good pick is a good pick. however that doesnt seem to be the prevailing train of thought. kinda like its not good value unless the certain pick you make fits in a certain skill ranking. like maro williams was picked first. people were surprised, but it was accepted. but what would have happened if we picked jason taylor number 1? now, i think jason taylor and julius peppers are the guys that made it possible, for williams to go 1. what im saying is what do we do with num 1? when the top 2 or 3 tackles are gone.

To my mind, Jeff Otah is the best LT in the class. Ryan Clady is raw, but balletic. Jake Long is the best run blocker and has All Pro potential on the right side. I don't think he's good enough on the left against speed rushers to justify the #1 pick. Anthony Collins I have liked for a long time and is ready to start. Chris Williams is a solid player. Sam Baker is getting overlooked, but this kid can flat out play. Carl Nicks was excellent in Mobile and played very well for Nebraska. Branden Albert has LT possibilities, but should start at G where he, IMO, is the best lineman in the draft.

It's a very strong class.

That's very interesting. Given our Guard situation he sounds like a great option at #32 if he lasts. Are you in favor of keeping Carey at LT or moving him back to RT? Curious also as to your opinion of Mormino and Hadnot.

Carey Played good at LT i think he should stay there

Keep in mind that Carey is a Free Agent after this year. We need to make certain that we have a back-up plan depending on what happens going into 2009.

yea i know but we can always sign him to a deal

see boom. if we could trade out of 1. id love to snatch otah. ive even posted this before. i mean a 6-7 ft. 340 lbs. mauler with light feet. outstanding! ive said before i think he and carey would solidify our bookends. thatd be huge. but for some reason. if we took him #1, wed be lynched. by kiper. by espn. by everyone. why exactly? i just dont know. but theyd probably freak worse than when we drafted ginn. i mean jesus. heres ginn. kid is a gamebreaker. they said he wouldnt look so fast in the nfl. well those returns i saw him run back last year. he looked just as fast as he was at OSU. but because one of his names aint brady. hes totally the wrong pick. maybe he should starting giving jared props as well. if we otah #1, id have no problem at all. but i just dont think thatll happen. but regardless. id never try to compare my draft knowledge or film study to yours.
