RIP Pat Devlin should start thread

Devlin went 11 of 13 at one point (with one drop by Messam) . Then Thigpen dropped one, and Hogan missed one, then Thigpen ran the wrong route, and he threw another away to avoid a sack. Could have easily finished 17 for 20, but that still wouldn't mean anything to some of you. Most of you are knocking Devlin for no reason other than everyone else is. The fact is that if Moore played as well as Devlin did, then you would probably be saying that Moore should be the starter. And if Tannehill played as well as Devlin, then you would say that we found our quarterback.

The issue is context.. no one is disputing he has been playing well, the problem is who he was playing well against. Playing against the 5th stringers and playing well is great, but it doesn't mean diddly squat when you realize that its basically one or two players on the field with even a shot at real playing team in meaningful games or making the team between both teams on the field at that point

hasn't devlin been on the practice squad for like 2 years. If he was this great talent why wasn't he drafted? Even better question since he is obviously this great hidden talent why is it that no team has come to claim him from said practice squad? I think it's evidence of a very common problem in the nfl. That being that the 3rd string qb is the most popular player in town.

I understand we have a QB battle here, but for the love of football. Just because our 3rd stringer plays well late in a preseason game does NOT mean he should start or even be considered to...

Devlin was much better this week. He can run this offense. He was very inaccurate last week. Much better.

1. Tannehill
2. Moore
3. Devline just cut garrared

Moore looked HORRIBLE against 2nd stringers. Garrard will still be on the Roster. They would have cut Garrard already once he was injured. He was the best QB in camp until he was hurt. I think he remains and Moore gets traded to the Packers, maybe for a WR or 6th round pick. He holds no more value on this team with the new coaching staff

I know the "playing against backups" argument. But wouldn't that argument then say that it would be a big disadvantage playing WITH the backup offense. It probably evens out then... Your argument may hold more water if Tanny or Moore had to play against the 1st team defense WITH the backup offense. But when you are accurate, making good decisions, leading the team, and moving the offense effectively without the ball hitting the ground, it doesn't really have much to do with who you're playing against. They are all pros and the difference is marginal anyway.

You could also then say that Rishard Matthews, Hogan, Fuller, and Thigpen's catches happened only because they played against backups.

1 year on the PS and he was a great pickup as a UDFA. This system is also IDEAL for him. I like the fact that we are grooming guys with potential instead of some of the bums I have seen taking up that 3rd QB/PS spot signal caller.

There is no way you start him with Tannehill here, but it would have been interesting had we went with Garrard, Moore and Devlin into the season (not drafting Tannehill). The kid has some talent.

The answer at quaterback is PAT DEVLIN. He was clearly the best quaterback last night. He is the real deal: he has the poise, confidence, accuracy, intellegence, and is still improving, andl has "IT," he has the magic. In the last two games, he drove the team down to the goal line on his last 3 possessions (and he has only played 4 possessions this preseason). He moves the ball easily with completion after completion, ball perfectly placed, and clearly gives us the best chance to win.

I know all you media bandwagon followers aren't going to see it, but Philpin, you need to keep watching, this guy runs your offense perfectly, did you mean it when you said "the guy who gives us the best chance to win will play?"

Stop smoking crack. It damages your logic. Pat Devlin has made good progress and will probably make the 53 man squad as the third string QB.

The only way this post is serious is if Pat Devlin is OP

I dont know, just something about playing with the kids in the pool and turning and your knee buckles says something to me. But then on top of that, he says something about "father time" catching up. I say mentally he is not gonna make it. Just go with the three. Thats why Moore goes nowhere.

This whole thread reminds me of the scott mitchell over Marino thing.

anyhoo, Devlin is making improvements. He gets this offense and is running it. Not saying he is all that but if he were to have to come in with the first teamers during reg. season, who knows? I mean, people are just putting way too much stock on preseason and the end results.

The offense will click at some point. Its the defense that will be the issue early on because I believe Tannehill can do the long drives and score when needed. He has had two nice long drives in two games and actually had a third where Wallace dropped it.

We are passing like 3-1 almost. Its for development purposes.

Based on what I saw, I agree, its only preseason and it would shed more light.

d-1

I'm fine with Delvin making the active 53 man roster, and having a chance to compete for the #2 position next year when Moore and Garrard are gone, but hell no on starting this year.

Only on this board would you draft a first round QB and after only 2 preseason games then be calling for an undrafted QB to take his place.

haha...thanks for the comic relief...this board needs more of that!

I definitely want this team to keep Devlin and develop him as Tannehill's backup and as possible future trade bait.

You want more comedy? How about letting Tannehill and Devlin have a true competition, and then let the one who gives us the best chance to win play. Then if it's Devlin, trade Tannehill while the price is still hot for a 1st or 2nd round pick, and then cut Ireland while your at it. I hope Tannehill turns out better than Henne, as I sure hate to waste another few years in vain.
