New day, new system, new coaches, and the makings of a new team.
With the introduction of Coach Flo and his staff, we are embarking on almost entirely new systems across all facets of the offense and defense. There will be a bumpy road to start, and it will require a massive learning/re-learning of how to execute. But first and foremost, players will need strong leadership both off and on the field.
This is where the Fitzpatricks should be stepping up.
Minkah Fitzpatrick is a marquee young player who has the physical ability, work ethic, and most importantly leadership to build this defense into one that proves top notch throughout the next decade. We may not see it in 2019, but this should be the season we see Minkah Fitzpatrick laying the foundation for his leadership. I expect a lot from him because he has that kind of ability physically, mentally, and psychologically.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is a grizzled veteran with tremendous experience across more offensive systems than any other QB in the NFL today. He is also exceptionally bright, posting the 2nd highest Wonderlich score for QB's ever. He is the perfect mentor for our OL, receiving corps, and running backs to learn how to execute Coach Flo's offense. The only people better would be people who ran it in New England, and we don't have the QB they used there. But most importantly, Ryan Fitzpatrick is the best person to mentor our young QB Josh Rosen, and if things don't work out for Rosen, mentor whomever we draft in 2020. Regardless, I'm expecting Ryan Fitzpatrick to step it up and lead this team into the 2019 season, and help our band of brothers get comfortable and competent in Coach Flo's systems.
Consider this the gauntlet of leadership laid down. I'm hoping and expecting both of our Fitzpatricks to pick it up and lead for the benefit of the team.
