The Dolphins need a center to back up Mike Pouncey, and Samuda, from UMass, seems to have a clear advantage over Nate Garner or Ryan Cook for now. Shelby, out of Utah, is listed ahead of veteran Jamaal Westerman on the depth chart. McDonald, who signed with the Dolphins out of Indiana after impressing the team as a tryout player at rookie camp, could stick as a backup tackle

Players with only one year contracts better outperform the younger players that will sign for longer periods.

I believe that Hicks can play center, as well as Cog. I don't see a roster spot being taken for just being a backup C. Garner was a disaster last year (see Philly stats), and is due $1.4M. Can't see him on the roster.
