just wanted to bring this up.. all off season for months we all spoke on Matthews and what we like of him that we saw last season, and his opportunities he had in front of him here with our WR issues and releases, etc.... and it seemed like he was spending time with Tannehill to make these progressions into becoming a solid WR for us.... then there were immature issues, almost a roller coaster in a way, of what he may of said, or acted, or whatever.

i am just glad he is out there working away, spending extra time with our guys like Tannehill land Landry, and becoming what a bunch of us saw he had the ability to start becoming!!! keep it up Matthews, this once again is literally your opportunity, your chance!!!

Said it in another thread and I'll say it here . . . I wouldn't be so quick to throw Kenny Stills in there with Matthews playing so well.

Stills will NEVER match the rapport that Matthews has with Tannehill and he's not nearly as good of a route runner. For what Tannehill "likes" to do, Matthews is a better fit and yea he can go deep on you as well.

Matthews had the reputation of being a bit of a diva and we saw the end of a couple of Tannehill blowups in a couple of games in previous seasons for making critical mistakes. However, it is significant that Coach Joe went out of his way to acknowledge Rishard's progress this year and also recognize his better maturity with prospective fatherhood. When given opportunities in practice, Matthews is now consistently making good catches. It seems like he understands his routes better and has improved with the talent around him. Congrats to Rishard and his coaches for making progress.
There is a theory that Jarvis Landry's ball catching skills are so good that all of the other WRs have had to improve theirs as well or they won't be getting as much ball thrown in their direction. Jarvis helped improve the catching skills of Odell Beckham Jr at LSU with a lot of competition and he's doing the same at the Dolphins. A player like Matthews seems to be now thriving with the competition. We shall see..
Other point with Matthews is that we sometimes forget that he was Colin Kaepernick's go to guy in Nevada. He helped Kaep get some big numbers in college and get noticed and subsequently drafted. Where some of us may look as Matthews as just a 7th round Draft pick (which he was), he could become an excellent receiver. Less than 10% of 7th round Draft picks complete their third NFL season. Matthews is now commencing his 4th. The irony is that he looks like he's one of Jeff Ireland's late round acorns to come good.

spiketex and kdawg totally agree!!!

and yeah i wouldnt just throw stills or parker in either... give them time to work and develop their way into the line-up.. they need to earn it first!!! Matthews right now is earning it, doing everything he needs to do.

I think with Parker, it'll be tough keeping him off the field. Just too much size and in the air ability to leave him on the bench. He's a legit #1 WR. He'll have a redzone impact the day he is activated.

But with Matthews, on his best days, he reminds me of the Green Bay WRs that people fall in love with, and that fits perfectly with what we want out of Ryan Tannehill. Consistency has plagued him for 3 years . . . he may have finally figured things out for good.

agreed with Parker yup yup... but maybe bringing him in slowly more as an every down WR... but definitely a target in red zone!!!

the highlighted quote you have on Matthews I love... totally agree. I just hope that stays true the rest of his career... i dont want his diva or non working attitude to come out at all in the future, especially if a Parker or Stills start to take time away, or move above him!!! he can still offer so much to Miami!!!

i just love what Matthews is doing, developing and becoming!!!

Not sure what got him in Philbin's dog house last year but, do know he was one of the few who spent time with RT each of the last 2 off seasons at his own expense. They do click, and look forward to seeing more of the combo in coming weeks.

As as soon as Parker is a go someone else is going to the bench no doubt anout it.

to bad that the lights seem to finally come on in his contract year

Matthews is going to be good depth but we're going to need him while Parker is out cuz I don't believe Parker will be ready week 1. Frankly I'm worried about Stills being ready. I also think that Matthews is a solid wide receiver given the chance he will do some great things I believe.

I like the alternative here, Philbin's player development.

I think the obvious answer here is to run a lot of 4 wide sets.

Seems like we are going to have a lot of pleasant "problems" this year in deciding which packages to go with considering Cameron and Sims are very good options as well.
