Dolphins wide receiver Rishard Matthews caught 6 of 10 targets for 113 yards with two touchdowns in Sunday's loss to the Bills...

Comments Thread: Rishard Matthews' play versus the Bills (week 3). Your perspective...?

Of course Joe had this kid buried for years on the depth chart.

Played with some fire and fought for the ball. He and Landry (fumble aside) were the few bright spots along with some Parker receptions.

I feel bad for the guy, this was set to be his year, he finally got the focus.

Had absolutely nothing to do with his focus... This incompetent staff have not given him a shot in 3 years. The only time they did let him get on the field, he made plays.

Richard should have been playing 2 years ago. He's better than Hartline and Bess.

They got rid of our cornerbacks, benched Rishard, got rid of Clay, let McDaniel walk, couldn't handle Incognito, so much "softness" from Philbin.

You need some tough dogs on your team, otherwise, you get pushed around.

They have actually done a good job in developing Rishard Matthews. Don't forget that he was the guy who invested many hours on many days catching the ball from Tannehill. He is a legitimate WR2.
Don't forget that less than 10% of 7th round Draft picks make it past year 3 on an NFL roster. Rishard is a genuine success story and on form he appears to have overtaken Jennings and Stills.

So its terrifying we wasted a 3rd on Stills, when we have to let him walk.

Do you really give Stills and Matthews big deals after this? You pick one or the other. Right now its Matthews and its not even close. We wasted a 3rd rounder on a season of a mediocre receiver.

You know, everyone has been saying this. But if this was really the case, why would they play him now?

Phibin is a joke, but I will say that I am very surprised and impressed that he had the balls enough to give Matthews these real opportunities ahead of Stills this year. Rishard's whining really didn't force Philbin's hand; if anything I thought it would have put Rishard even more in Philbin's dog house and thus that much more unlikely to see the field in any meaningful manner.

If it ever made sense to shelve Rishard in favor of other players for ulterior motives it is this season with the 2 new FA WR acquisitions. If they were really so adamant on leaving talent off the field surely they would be doing it now to try validate their recent FA/draft moves. Instead they let the better receiver play and at least that is something Philbin got right!

That was the deal that shipped Ellerbe.

Stills is here till 2016 then his contract is up, but i'd resign him after that. Jennings will be gone next season, so we'll need him.

I would be more than good with having Landry, Matthews, Parker, Stills and Hazel for like 3-4 straight years. So we won't have to waste draft picks on a position that is set with young talent.

I honestly think they are simply incompetent... They overlooked his production and thought "well, hey, this guy Wallace and Hartline have done really well the past few seasons why would Matthews be better?" They weren't playing rookies as much as they do now. Philbin must have learned or Hickey had some influence in it.
