Was trolling the san diego chargers site and found an interesting thread that was quoting the new york daily news article stating that the jets are in the hunt for Philip Rivers. They seem to be in worse shape (ie more desperate) than the fins when it comes to future qb prospects. Interestingly AJ smith is quoted as not having one call as to the availability of Rivers. The article does state it is unlikely to happen before the october 18 trade deadline as the price for Rivers would be to high. Not exactly Nfl gosepel quoting a new york rag but it is interesting that the price of rivers appears to be on the rise. There just is few if any old retread qbs for the jets to bring in. As evidenced by the bottom of the barrel find of testeverde as a qb. It makes the Rivers gamble much more interesting if the fins pass on him (assume if you will he even is on the blocks) and the jets land him. He turns out to be the qb everyone seems to think we will have to face him for many years to come. Cann't upload the story but is on Chargers.com if you want to read it.

I'd love to have the Jet's give there number 1 to SD for Rivers... Rivers is a bust in the making...

He barely beat out Lemons for the Number 2 job, and I think he's slated as the number two solely on the fact he was the #4 pick overall... or was it #5? I forgett...

I don't think this will happen. Edwards loves Pennington, don't think he's giving up on him yet (even though I think he should).

kinda like wanny and Fiedler..

not convinced Rivers is a bust.... sorry, not yet... too many natural tools with that guy, and i hope the Jets don't land him...

Id be interested in why you think Rivers "is a bust in the making?"

Mechanics?
Skills?
Competition in college?
Vision?
Knucklehead?
Past performances in the NFL?

Etc...? Why?

We need a Cb as bad as they need a Qb. I bet Vinny, with his rocking chair and all, still plays the qb position better than one of our Db's who continues to get burn every game. I hate to say it, because i hate the jets..but its true. As far as Rivers, I dont think Saban will go after him now because as it has been stated here his price keeps getting higher and higher. The Jets are going to have to give up more than a 1 for him now if they really want him.

That type of move would make sense for New York. I really thought they could be a strong super bowl contender this year and if they got Rivers, and he turns out to be the real deal, maybe they still can be that type of team. Of course, those types of moves can also backfire. But, I honestly feel that Rivers will be a good quarterback in this league so I'd take the chance if the price was right.

I think his mechanics are a bit off... after a full year in the system he didn't look to sharp in preseaon... maybe that's because he was running with the #2's....

My Brother in law is a huge Chargers fan... and the Lemons comment was a quote from him... was he wrong?

Doesn't Rivers have a weird, low release some were worried about before he was drafted?

You sir obviously don't know of what you speak. Rivers is better than any QB we have on our roster now. He will be a winner in this league and you can take that to the bank.
:)

please god dont let the jets land Rivers, he would make them into a good team. This guy has skills guys and could be a really good player in this league just havent gotten the chance yet.
