"I'm not going to sit here forever," Rivers said. "There's an end to it. Do I want to be a Charger in '06? Sure. But more importantly, I want to be a starting NFL quarterback somewhere. As bad as I want to be a Charger, I want to play. I don't want to sacrifice and be a backup to be a Charger. That's not something I want to do or I'm going to do."

I think he's demorilzed after seeing all the success Eli Manning is having. It's almost as if he is feeling impatient of his situation....The Chargers are driving his career right into the ground....

We maynow understand the real reason behind why Eli didn't want to be a Charger....it may have been him sitting on that bench...

No, its about Eli wanting to get paid. The Chargers never pay high draft picks (LT, Rivers...etc). They play hardball, guys end up holding out till like the week before Week 1.

ELI could have cared less where he went, he just wanted to get paid and get into camp early.

he also thought he had a chance at some outrageous endorsement deals here in the NY market.....but as of yet, the only thing I've seen him in is a Subway commercial

Maybe he didnt want to play for Schotty. He hasnt exactly been known as a Qb friendly coach. He took his dad's advice for whatever reason, maybe it was strictly money but I think it was probaly just that SD has been a loser franchise, Archie knows what its like to play well on lousy teams with no shot. He wasted his career running for his life and getting beat up for crappy New Orleans teams, probaly didnt want this to happen to Eli.

When people inside the Charger orginization were telling Eli and Archie to stay away from San Deigo, it's hard to blame them for what they did.

The Chargers would be crazy to trade Brees and keep Rivers. I think that Rivers will be the one that gets traded somewhere. I wouldn't mind for him to come here, but it might be for a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Chargers: Team can keep both Brees and Rivers
The News

Despite popular belief, the Chargers could in theory afford to keep both starter Drew Brees and backup Philip Rivers in the future. They are well under the salary cap, the bulk of Rivers' enormous contract has already been paid out, and if San Diego signs Brees to a long-term deal, they can spread his contract out over several seasons. "We don't have to do anything," general manager A.J. Smith told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I like having two [quarterbacks as] injury protection."
Our View

Of course Smith doesn't mind having two solid quarterbacks; the problem is how the two passers handle it. Assuming Brees navigates a brutally difficult schedule to maintain his hold on the job, it's unlikely that Rivers will be too eager to return to the team as a backup for the third straight season. As for Brees, he's still seeking that big contract and won't be too happy if he once again is slapped with the franchise tag. Smith's desire aside, this still looks like a messy situation that will have to be addressed at the end of this season.

Welcome to Miami Mr. Rivers, what Jersey number would you like (please dont pick 13 or 12) and come on in and meet all the people you will be throwing too. Now once that bandwagon starts, Let me on board and lets party!!!! Rivers would solve our qb issues for years to come!!

Man, I'd kill to get Rivers here; he's going to be better than his whole class, and better than this year's QB's too.

Kid's a winner, and he'd be phenomenal here.
