How about instead of having coaches going on and on about simplifying the offense and defense, we put together a smarter team and make our offense and defense as complicated as all get out!
I am sick of listening to players whine about how complicated things are.
Snag Barrett Jones off the Steelers practice squad. Versatile backup and perhaps the smartest guy in the NFL. Snag Terrell Watson off the Bengals practice squad.
2016: Head Coach...Mark Dantonio....DC Alabama's Kirby Smart.....OC Mike Shula(May require Ross to shove a suitcase full of money under the table)http://www.campusrush.com/mark-dantonio-michigan-state-spartans-1462161573.html
Smart would run a base 3-4 defense.
Rebuild-Trade or cut veterans and add cap room and picks. Restructure and extend Cameron Jordan because he will take on a similar importance to Shula's offense as Greg Olson in Carolina. Olson is the leading pass catcher.
Let Vernon and Shelby walk and bring back Lamar Miller. I think he and Ajayi have a brilliant future together. Jamar Taylor is a really bright young guy(3.8 GPA and only 25) and I don't want to give up on him. He is immature but is also cheap depth.
Exercise the option in Suh's contract that will even out his remaining money over the course of his contract and greatly reduce the cap.
Give Reshad Jones an extension and a raise. Lock him up until he is 33-34. Significantly lower the cap numbers for Jones and Jordan in 2016 and push it into 2017 and beyond where there is flexibility.
I know a lot of people will strongly disagree with extendeding Cam Wake but I love the guy and when he is healthy there are few on a level with him when it comes to pure pass rushing. Extension to 2018 and drop his 2016 cap hit way down.
Trade Tannehill for a pick or a few. The disparity on Tannehill's trade value will be from one end of the spectrum to the other on this. Some will say he is untradable and others will want two 1st round picks. So.....for this scenario we just take the #16 pick from the Texans. I know the dead cap on this is absolutely atrocious, I get it. Makes me sick but sometimes you just have to move on.
Trade Grimes for a pick......maybe the raiders will give us a 4th-5th? They are needy and they will probably love Miko.
Trade Koa Misi and Dion Sims(Dansby is 34 and Barnidge is a free agent at 30) with whatever draft pick comp necessary(a 2017 pick) for 5-tech Desmond Bryant. Browns will be under a new system next year so they may be open to trading Bryant. When sober, Bryant is a genius and a great athlete. Harvard grad with a 4.0 He was also one of the NFL's top 100 players a couple year's ago. He has two year's on his contract for 6 mil a year.
Trade Mitchell, he is a 3-tech only at this point imo. His salary is reasonable and he is well thought of around the league, he just turned 28 so we might get something for him. 4th -6th? Throw in Dallas Thomas and ask for the 4th. Trade Walt aikens for a 7th or cut him.
Trade Pouncey to the Titans for their 2nd. I just don't like him. I question his intelligence, a lot, and he is the leader of our OL! Your center is supposed to be the smartest guy on your team after the QB maybe.
Alex Mack is opting out of his contract at year's end it has been reported. This guy, I would be happy to pay! This is your smart center. Scored 1180 on his SAT and graduated ,"Cooma some of a lotta." or some such thing. Now this guy is a real All-Pro.
Hopefully Vincent Rey indeed hits free agency. I think he would be an excellent Will LB and he fits the smarter role graduating from Duke 4.0 . You won't here him complaining about the playbook.
Rhett Ellison TE One of the best blocking TE's in the league.
Need to find a quality run stuffing nose to rotate with Jordan Phillips or just back him up depending on his development. Phillips played nose in college. Some 0-tech. Pot Roast would be a nice luxury acquisition if possible. With Fede and Shelby and Jordan this team would just have enormous flexibility to run every kind of hybrid and unbalanced line in the book or out of the book.
Obviously Dion Jordan isn't smart but I don't like giving up one the best pure athletes in the NFL when it doesn't pay to cut him. He has the potential to be a very effective LB, especially in coverage.
Of course we will cut or trade Quinton Coples. Could we get late rounder from a team running a 4-3? Maybe Caolina would spend a 6th on home town boy.
Of course Greg Jennings will be released as will Brice MCain. The cap room really does add up with these moves.
Right now it looks like Peyton Manning will not be in Denver next year. I think he has a year or two left in him but he obviously can't play hurt anymore. He may even have such a huge chip on his shoulder that he won't demand big money.
Chase Daniel is probably going to get a shot at starting with an NFL team next year. I like him a lot. I like Joe Webb as a #3 wildcat QB.
Draft: Right now if the Dolphins find a way to lose to the Ravens we could be picking as high as 3rd. If we win a couple as far back as good old #15. For this scenario because we have the strength of schedule over everybody close to us I will go with #5.
I base this draft projection on the CBS draft site.
1st round........Trade down with one of the QB needy teams and add a 3rd and 5thand then draft the brilliant young 20 year old Vernon Hargreaves lll. CB Academic award winner.
1st round from Texans.....Trade down and add a late 2nd then draft LB Joshua Perry OSU scholar athlete. Could play inside or outside. I envision him as the Mike for the next 14 years. They rave about his leadership and maturity. Elite character.
2nd(from Titans)........Trade down and add a 3rd and 4th, then draft Jeremy Cash Safety Duke, another genius level 4.0 gpa grad student
2nd....Carson Wentz QB 6'6 http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...e-prospect-north-dakota-state-qb-carson-wentz
2nd(1st round trade down)....Spencer Drango LG http://footballmatters.org/not-your...n-school-sport-earn-campbell-finalist-honors/
3rd.......Joe Haeg OL A guy who will probably project to any position on the line.
3rd.......James Cowser quintessential 3-4 outside LB, Coseida Capital one Academic all american
4th.......Bronson Kaufusi Tweener (5-9 technique) 3.9 GPA another brainiac. 10 sacks this year. extremely quick and agile for a guy 6'7" 280
4th.......Chris Jones DT
5th......Harvey Langi LB
5th.....Cole Toner OT Harvard National Merit Scholarship and pretty quick
6th......Aidarius Barnes CB Track star, once ran a 4.21 forty Small school snub, smart high character kid with great ball skills
7th.....Brad Craddock K
7th.....(from Ravens for Will Davis)...Dean Lowry DE/5-tech another brilliant kid
7th.....Zach Vraa WR Another NDSU Bison. He needs to just run a 4.6 to be drafted IMO. He is near perfect in all categories
Roster:
QB.......Peyton Manning,Chase Daniel,Carson Wentz
RB......Miller,Ajayi,Williams,Terrell Watson
TE.......Jordan Cameron,Rhett Ellison,Jake Stoneburner
WR......Landry,Parker,Stills,Hazel,Vraa,Chris Owusu

Safeties...Reshad Jones,Jeremy Cash,Michael Thomas
CB's.....Vernon Hargreaves,Tony Lippett,Bobby McCain,Jamar Taylor,Aidarius Barnes
I did intend to make a scenario for 2017 but I ran out of time. Pretty wild personnel turnover, would never happen, but; Just some food for thought. The only way change anything like this will happen is if Ross sells. It is far more likely that we stay the course and continue in mediocrity and less than mediocrity.
Carson Wentz is going to make some fans out there very happy. Give him a couple years and he will be one of the new generations great ones. I have seen most of his games. He is the real deal.
