It appears as though we are in the midst of signing DE Rob Burnett. I'm not sure I'm in favor of this. I believe that he's in the twilight of his career, but if we sign him, and he's on the field on passing downs only, he may be able to provide a spark/rush off the line of scrimmage.

21:15 PT: The Sun Sentinel reports the Miami Dolphins are continuing to hold contract negotiations with free agent DE Rob Burnett (Ravens).

I think adding a veteran the caliber of Rob Burnett is an excellent move. Not only does he give great depth, but with the rest of the DE's being so young, he can teach them a lot. He has been on a record setting defense and won a Super Bowl. Can you imagine what kind of leadership he can bring to this young locker room? Great move in my opinion.

WANNY ASKED MEMBERS OF THE OL.....

I think this should not be a surprise to anyone....that WANNY has seeminly passed on SINCLAIR, in lieu of BURNETT.

Like I stated in an earlier post---WANNY had taken a poll with the offensive line....and asked them....which of the two guys....would be the better signing.

MARK DIXON was very adamant on the radio a few weeks about it....when he was really lobbying for BURNETT.

I think the Dolphins will sign BURNETT....whether it is this week...or the next. There is just not that many teams competing for BURNETT's services.....and if the guy is going to sign on with a team...for the veteran minimum....well...then...he may as well sign on with the DOlphins...and with all the less state income tax headaches, that comes along with it.

This is a big advantage for the Dolphins---when it comes down to veterans in search of a job......the benefits of playing in the state of Florida.

I personally don't look at the signing of ROB BURNETT as anything of significance.....he is just in the mix...and in the rotation. I just hope he can make something happen out there...when he gets his chances...if he does sign...which l do see happening sometime soon.

considering we lost 2 vets in Mix and Lo Bro, it makes sense to bring a vet like Burnett, especially if DG or Chester get hurt, we'll need more DEs

as far as depth goes, if a team carried as many backups as i'd like to see, i don't think they could afford to travel!

I think that bringing {{

in R - Burnett is a great move,, yeah he is starting his 13th season but I feel he still has a motor and will only help the D-L in situational pass rushing ! I think that some of you have forgotten that T- Armstrong never played every down and he is a year older than Burnett. ;) Marino1983

Marino1983.....how can you say he will help with situational pass rush when the dude had ZERO SACKS last season!!!!

The only reason I am not totally against signing Burnett is because he is so cheap, anything more than the Vet Min and I would go on hunger strike!! He is over the hill, and I will be shocked if he gives us anything signifigant at all.

And what was the Ravens scheme last season? did they try to keep Burnett on the field for 1st and 10 situations? I know he wasn't a 100% percent last season ( but I do not recall what or the extent of his injuries) and did the way the Billick utilized Burnett contribute to his having ZERO SACKS ???? I will still use T- Armstrong as an example, both are close in age and both have experience in getting to the qb, the main difference is Armstrong had a major injury last season and it is going to be very tough for him to come back at even 85% of what he was!! I do not believe that Burnett's injuries were of the career robbing kind (as was Traces), so if Burnett passes a physical and the Dolphins can get him at the veterans minimum,, then by all means he would be a welcome addition Bodzilla !!!!!!:D ;) Marino1983

He strated EVERY GAME HE PLAYED LAST YEAR! Plus, he NEVER faced double teams, if you saw them play at all you should know that. McCrary and Boulware get all the doubles on that team, while on running downs the middle men(Adams mostly) get the double. He was surrounded by more talent in Baltimore last year than he will be in Miami this year, and still couldn't get it done, so what are you basing his potential ability in Miami on? He is not back in Baltimore because he can't play up to a certain level anymore.

With all of Baltimore's losses on D this upcoming season, don't you think they would be interested in re-signing a player they know to the Vet Min? If they don't want him there MUST be something wrong with him, like a lil ol problem of ZERO PRODUCTION.

He is not getting younger, so what are you basing your assumption on?

Plus there is one MAJOR issue I have with you comparing him to Trace......Trace had 16.5 SACKS WHEN HE LEFT!!!!!! BURNETT HAD ZERO!!!!!!

If you can't see a difference there, then there is no debate.

I could really give a RATS }}}

ass if YOU have a major problem with my comparison of Burnett to Armstrong :yell: When Shula traded for T Armstong in 95 he really didn't produce for the Dolphins until 96 when he had 12 sacks,, that is when JJ changed purged the dead wood from the team and went to a 4 man line ! The defensive schemes are what helped T- Armstrong gain those sacks, other wise he would have probably been released or traded!! Armstrong was a great D-E, and a great Miami Dolphin, even before he was injured last season,, how many sacks did he have ? Granted he was injured early in the season but you talk about him as if he was the second coming of LT,B-S, and J-T ! I never said that Burnett would be a starter or lead the league in sacks,, DID I ???? I posted that Burnett STILL has a motor and would be a nice addition at the vet minimum I never posted that he was Pro Bowl material !! Are you saying that there isn't talent along Miami D - line ?? :confused: because if that is the case you need to study up more on the Miami Dolphins. I did see the Ravens play but if you think that S Adams was double teamed because of his pass rushing ability then you need to get a clue pal ? And as far as you suggesting that the Ravens haven't resigned Burnett because he is washed up,,, hummm I guess that would also apply to R Woodsen and S- Sharpe too-- right ???? The Ravens can't afford to resign ANYBODY!!! Lewis and McCrary have refused to free up cap space because they both want a big signing bonus,, When the Ravens get this resolved,, if Burnett is still unsigned there is NO question that he will be in a Baltimore uniform this season ! If you feel that R - Burnett cannot play at this level anymore - than of couse that is your opinion ,,, but do not come across in your reposts back, with a degrading sarcasm that you are right and that I am wrong, because IT AINT HAPPENING BUD... If you want to debate, fine, but just because YOU think that you are right it doesn't necessarily mean that is the case !!!:mad: Marino1983

Marino man chill out :lol:

Bodzilla had a good point and you totally overlooked that. That point is "how can someone be considered to have a good motor yet have ZERO sacks?". Also he was entirely correct as to why the Ravens aren't resigning him. The Ravens may be cash strapped but they can easily afford a veteran minimum salary and with the way the Ravens are you have to ask yourself why they wouldn't sign someone from their own team to the vet minimum unless they purely just don't want him.

Your Woodson/Sharpe comparisons aren't good at all because those 2 players have/are going to sign for very good money (Woodson is getting 1.75 million + incentives from the Raiders this year).

On Marinos behalf...they did drop their SB winning QB in Dilfer...:D

Burnett will be signed for his run stopping ability as a precaution against an injury to Daryl Gardener. As of now, all we have behind JT and DG are pass rushing specialists. If Gardener gets hurt, our running game suffers.

Burnett won't provide much of a pass rush, but he won't get driven backwards on the end and can free up Morlon Greenwood to make plays on the strong side.

Marino my friend, a few points......
I thought your Trace comparison was of age. I thought you were comparing to older players, I obviously misunderstood the comparison.

Now onto my points.....I said Burnett never got doubled on running downs because the interior lineman, aka Adams were getting doubled. Were they pass situations?? NOOOOOO. Does Timbo get doubled because of his pass rush ability? No, I think you need to check your clue there pal.

I also was not saying you were implying Burnett would lead the league in sacks or go to the probowl, where did I give you that impression? I merely strongly disagree that he can get to the QB at all.

Of course Miami has a super talented Defense, and Dline, but it is not as good as Baltimore's defensive unit. So he did have more talent around him. Comparing our D to Baltimore's and saying it is less talented is like saying Indy's offense is less talented than St Louis', which it is, but does that make Indy's O a bad one? Hell no dude, same deal with Miami. Player for Player we can't match up.

As it was already kindly pointed out, Sharpe and Woodson both signed for over the vet min. If you think Baltimore can't sign people to the vet min then you need to study up on capology 101.

This is my last post on the isue. I have made my case, if you don't agreee that is fine, everybody is obviously entitled to their own opinion, I just have trouble in seeing what logic people use in deriving opinions sometimes.

I have no prob with Burnett coming here IF he is at the min and is promised NOTHING! If he earns a place, I welcome him with open arms, I just can't see him producing much of anything. Hopefully he can still hold his point against the run.

Last word.....(from me) Burnett is washed up.
