Tuesday, Chad Henne's practice was not great when you measure his performance in team drills. Roberto Wallace, working with the second and third team offense, was a different story.

He had three nice catches during team drills by my unofficial count, including a 25-yard reception between the corner and safety on a post pattern. It was, in a word, heartening.

"I'm definitely more at ease, I'm comfortable," Wallace said after practice. "Even though it's a new offense, I feel like the more relaxed and the more comfortable I am, I play better."

He was playing pretty well Tuesday. I teased Wallace that it was his best practice of the current camp.

"No, just because I had a couple of catches? I don't know that this was the best," Wallace answered. "I think my best practices are the ones where I'm error free [on assignments]. That's what means the most to me. I can have three catches and I have a mental error, I'll be hard on myself because I had the mental error. When I have errors I'm hard on myself."

So has Wallace had an error-free practice?

"I've been close," he said. "I've had practices where I've had only one or two. Today I had probably none. Maybe there are some technique things that I could work on. But I don't think I had mental mistakes today. I want to be perfect."

Wait a second ... he caught passes and doesn't think he had any mental mistakes? That was his best practice, I insisted ...
"Sounds good then," he said smiling, "sounds good to me."

One thing that might go unnoticed about Wallace that coaches have definitely measured him on is his special teams contribution.

Even from last year, Roberto Wallace just seemed like a guy to invest time in . . . way moreso than Marlon Moore. The guy is arguably the best special teams gunner on the team, he has Brandon Marshall size and speed . . . he just needed to get a bit more consistent with his hands and obviously get more polished with his routes. Glad to see he is taking the next steps in becomming a factor at the WR position. I think he has made the team already.

I've read Daboll will be going 4 and 5 wide. does that mean there will be 6 WR on the final roster?

gotta see separation at this level...raw talent...like k dawg said damn good gunner on specials...as a result probably makes the roster i'd say as the 5th wr...i think we only carry 2 te's one true te in fasano and an h back clay...4 rbs barring someone else coming in...thomas, bush hilliard grigsby...no true fb

grigsbys the guy i think who better watch out for someone elses cuts or a veteran...although i could see us rolling with the 4 i've listed til we lose one to injury

Doubtful because Reggie Bush can be used as a WR in those instances. My guess is we keep the normal 5 on the roster. The only exception I can think of for keeping 6 is if Livas lights it up as a return man and makes it impossible for us to cut him.

Yea 5 WR's seems about right. I don't know if Miami can afford to keep a 6th WR as a kickoff returner with the return game on kickoffs being much less a factor this year. Plus you gotta think Gates can be used on kickoffs and you still got Reggie Bush and Davone Bess on punts. Plus Sheets and Grigsby and even Hilliard can return kickoffs.

Marshall/Bess/Hartline/Gates/Wallace . . . I expect all 5 guys active on gameday. Livas could be headed to the PS. Pruitt and Moore will be out of the picture.

yeah we're said to be putting a package together where bush is lined up at wr with 3 other wrs...sounds like we're gonna use him a lot differently than the saints did...wallace probably does get active on game day though cause of the specials play

my understanding is right now gates is the lead horse for the kickoff return job...

I forgot about Bush lining up wide(and I just read about that), it will probably be 5. the young guys are practice squad eligible

Give me Gates Speed outside, with Brandon's ability as the #1 WR, Bess's shiftiness in the slot and Reggie's dynamics anywhere on the field . . . throw in Fasano or Clay . . . and Henne definitely has a few more "this century" options than he did last season. Hopefully the OLine has some kind of identity by the first game.

I think only Livas is . . . I'm sure Moore was active in too many games last season to be thrown on the PS and Pruitt has been there for 2 years already. Who else we got at WR? I haven't really been paying much attention, figure I catch up on Friday.

haven't heard much about anyone else except Brooks Foster, who was on the PS last year. I think under certain circumstances there is a way to put a player on it for a 3rd year, but I don't know if Pruitt would be eligible. Moore could be cut.

Yea I forgot about Brooks Foster . . . he was decent at UNC, probably sticks on the PS another year.
